Have you ever seen the movie"Twister" starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton? It's about a group of scientists that try their hardest to discover what makes a Tornado tick. They made a device called"Dorothy"If you haven't seen it,do.You will be sitting on the edge of your seat all during the movie.
I,have always wanted to do this all my life.I want to know what makes them"tick".I know,i'll never get the chance to,but i am,and will always be curious about them.I just wish i could have been one of them scientists.
I guess maybe i watched too much Wizard of Oz growing up :)The greatest magical film ever made.
Do any of you ever think you might want to chase a tornado?

I for one think it would be awesome.
But me aside, there are a LOT of people who like to do this. I just watched a special (I think it was on dicovery channel) about storm chasers, and they take people along with them, for $2000 per week. Even at that rate, they had a full van load with them, and kept their vans full of paying "storm tourists" week after week.
This is one of my dream vacations, and now that I know it even exists, I'll be doing it soon!

the show was awesome, I'll have to find out if its going to be on again soon. Its not like in the movie Twister though, they get you pretty close, but saftey is always first priority (they did have to replace their windshield twice throughout the week due to hail breaking it, they get you REAL close).

I would do it if I was with someone who has experience with it, and equipment to help predict it. But doing it without knowing anything would be kind of crazy, because you never know when it can turn around and come at you.

I've seen the movie. Yes it is good. My husband watches it (for the sake of helen hunt) every time it is on, so I "see" at least once a month it seems!
I couldn't do it, I wouldn't want to do it! When we lived in Odessa Texas, there was the area to the north west of us where tornado's rolled through and often touched down. It was not populated much (Goldsmith and No Trees were the citys) and we'd sit on our front porch and watch them and listen to the weather station for updates. We had a storm celler, so we'd be ready if it happened, but it never did. But it sure was amazing to watch those cones move across the skyline.
