My Granny had this brilliant feather bed!!!
When we were children we used to beg to go and sleep in her bed...it was so snug and comfy...she was the only person that i can ever remember knowing who had one.
Did anyone you knew have a feather bed????

yes my mum and dad had one back in the 50's and I also have a feather topper on our mattress now. The only trouble with it is that it does need a good shake almost everyday but it is really comfortable.

I loved that feather bed!!...i have a feather top quilt as well!!..they are wonderful...very warm...but as you say you need to shake them well to get the feathers evenly spread!....
In the UK we call you feather topper an eiderdown?....they are quite expensive to buy now...and they often appear on e bay and i think ohhhh who would pay that for a feather quilt!!!!

I would very well imagine that it was money well spent!!
Im a bit of a lover of the `old fashioned` type bedding!
Im afraid to say that i use flannelette sheets..and have a wool blanket on my bed!!!..i love cotton pillowases too!!
A while ago at an auction i was tempted and bought an old quilt...a durham quilt...it was pink and cream and in excellent condition...it washed up really lovley....now thats my latest bit of old bedding!!!!
Somehow i think they had it taped in those days...they knew how to make things comfy!!

I've never tried a feather bed & I don't think I know anyone who has one.
My neighbour saw us moving a mattress the other day & asked if he could have the old one. It was really rather manky so we were quite surprised that anyone would want it, but when we realised that he was still sleeping on a STRAW mattress we could understand it's appeal!

Hello dear ruby. It is so nice that you could sleep in your granny's feather bed, but none of my family has got one yet. I think that it must be nice and warm to sleep in it when the weather is very cold. Is the feather bed still available, please?
