There are plenty of people like that, who have worked hard all of their lives and wind up being old and depressed. My mom was one of those people. She was a good person who worked hard to help her parents during the Great Depression, then struggled to make ends meet for her family (herself, my dad and me). I can't recall a time that my mom ever enjoyed herself or went out and had a good time. She was always home, working and helping me and my brother and sister. Essentially, she was trapped in this physical plane. Once she passed, she became free and is in a much better place.
I think that we make choices in this life. We're here to learn lessons and the results of those choices are often lessons that we must still learn. We wind up learning, for the most part, and are stronger for it.
