Do you want to live in the big city, small town, acreage, mountains, the sticks/boondocks or where?
We recently moved to an acreage about 20 miles from the city, It's great... quiet, no traffic noises, no trains to rattle the house with and we almost daily see wild turkeys and deer out in the yard.
But where would you like to live?

I use to live in the Mountains of Kentucky but now we live in the city of Rochester, NY in an 18 story apartment building. We don't have the sounds of the city though because we are a few blocks from downtown and our building is quite. I guess it is insulated well.

We prefer the country, near a small town of not more than 5000 population. We have enjoyed the same qualities that you mention. We have lived in the country, in small towns, and big cities. In 1973, we intentionally moved from the big city where I was raised to a very small town so that our two daughters could attend decent schools. We never regretted it. Unfortunately, we must now live near a community with full-service health facilities. With the experience of 65 years I've determined that each individuals' personality dictates the degree of happiness they will find in their immediate environment. There is, of course, that small minority of people who will thrive irregardless of surroundings. Some people that I've known over the years have completely surprised me with their choices of living situations. These days, I can't imagine anyone choosing to live, let's say, in the largest city in their state.
But, that's just my opinion, and I've been surprised before. Thanks for asking this question - it's been fun for me to reminisce.
