Can music help you study?

For me, I can't study if I hear some noise either music or children playing outside. I can't memorize and I can't concentrate. I just need a place that I will not hear any music..not a single sound if possible. In that way, I can easily memorize and study my books. I am the type of person who study as if talking to myself. I talk a bit loud sometimes to discuss what I have learned. This strategy was effective, because I passed all my exams and I got high grades.

I've always, or at least almost always had music playing while doing homework or studying. It helps to keep me relaxed and actually helps me concentrate on what I'm studying at the time. However, there are days when I just need peace and quiet to get through something.

I can't concentrate when it's too quiet. I often play Harry Potter in the background while I study. It reduces the stress somehow. But I can't concentrate when listening to music..cause I end up just singing the songs..

I need to have some type of background noise when I'm studying but not loud enough to distract me from my work. There was a year when I was studying IT and end of term tests were coming up. I sat in the living room playing video games while studying for the tests and my dad walked by and asked me "Are you studying?" I was like "Yeah, don't worry I'll pass." Lo and behold, I got the highest score in my class for that test but not the highest in the whole grade. Ah well, I was close...I missed by 6 points.
