I will be soon. I just downloaded Unbuntu last night. Not sure if I want to do a dual boot on my windows Vista computer or just install it on an old(1.2Ghz) computer. If I install on the old computer I will have to buy a network card so I can on the internet. I plan on using it instead of windows. I mainly use my computer to get on the internet and play around with Java progams. Not mush else.

I would recommend using your old machine at first until you become accustomed to Ubuntu and are certain that you will be continuing to use it.
It would happily coexist with vista as a dual boot, but since you have the option of a standalone system then it must be the best choice.

I am now writing this using FireFox and Unbuntu. I started the live CD to see how it would react to me fairly new Dell computer. I have not fooled with it much yet. But Since I have a 19" Wide screen monitor the viewing area is not quit centered.

I ordered a CD for free from their ubuntu website. I was very upset with the software...it was a joke. I couldn't get any of the accessories to work and the manufatures didn't offer linux drivers. So I had to delete it because of incompatability issues. It is so sad because I liked linux a lot, but it just isn't supported by the manufatures, so I will stick with windows (or mac) that are more commonly used.

there's a new version coming out this month you might can try it. You should of made a live CD and booted to it to test out everything. I have a farily new computer and I'm running Ubuntu. What do you have that's not working?

I am not using Linux at the moment, but I have used several in the recent past.
I have run Xandros on my laptop and have had a dual boot of Ubuntu and Mandriva on the desktop. I am currently using Windows XP and Windows Vista, but expect to to be reinstalling Linux in the near future.

I've used Knoppix live linux DVD, and boy! I am amazed! just boot up and you'll have a complete OS with all applications ready to use. No installation, no hardware driver setup. Play/view media, Open Office, process image, Internet browser, play game, perform HD maintenance/backup, practically everything MS has except the prise.
Is ubuntu ok with old and not so old machines?

i suggest going on xubuntu for old machines, it can run even on only 256 mb of memory, it is lightweight and many useful programs were already bundled with it...

Im still using xp, i dont think i will be upgrading to vista soon....i have alot of applications that dont support vista and if they do...i will have to upgrade or buy a new software to work on vista. Although ive already seen how vista works. its really has nice graphics.

I am currently running Kubuntu 7.10 64-bit on my secondary PC. It's a great OS and I like it very much. The only problem that I have with it is that my ATi Radeon AIW 9800PRO tv-tuner and video capture won't work with it. That is more of an ATi/AMD issue, for not creating drivers, than a Kubuntu issue though.
