How do you view the world?

I was just reading someone's discussion and I was going to respond, but before I could I realized that I should actually make a discussion. I even had to ADD this interest because this is the RIGHT place to put it! What kind of world view do you have? Now, I'm not talking about being liberal or conservative? I'm not talking religion or any of those things - tho they can affect your take on this subject. I'm talking about how you do it. Are you one of those that view everyone else as supporting roles to your lead? Do you look at the houses in your neighborhood, town, near by towns as just cyphers that might come in and interact with your lead role? Or do you look at each house and wonder what kind of life do the people live there? Do you realize that each person is their own little universe and you could be just a walk on part someday in their show? Are you some where between. You and the people around you, your family and friends are real to you and even the people you just see in the store have some level of reality, but everyone else are just stick figures? Or are you some other world view? I have known people that are all 3, I guess I'm more of a #2 sort of person, realizing every one is important in their own eyes.

Think I'm #2 as well, Elic. Basically, I'm the type that would rather just sit back and watch the world go by while listening to the pleaant sound of falling rain, kids laughing, animals around me...

some how I think I'd sort of knew that about you, BlackBriar. I think a lot of people do that some, but some do that from the perspective of the world revolving around them.

I look at each house and wander what the people are like who live there. I do realise also that everyone is in their owm little universe. I am prime example of that. Everyone is special to me. I pay attention and respect all people. They aare all very visible even though some are very different.

I can't say I do that every time, or day, but when I do take time to think about it, I do mostly try to do that. I wonder things like - do they have kids? What do they eat for meals? How is their house decorated? Do they fight with their spouse? I guess its the story teller in me that makes me wonder these sort of things.

I am not really understanding what you mean by world view because basically our world view is simply how we think, our principals and rules for living etc. but I see myself as a person with influence that can better people lives. People are important to me, I help them as best I can and they help me, we learn from each other that is my world view.

I feel each household is a separate world with their own people, likes, dislikes, preferences, priorities, circumstances, their merits and demerits and a RIGHT to live a life of their choice like want to mingle with others or not or moderate mingling etc. I am a friendly type but not sticky type. I will smile at them, exchange a couple of words to have good neighbourhood, help in times of need, and leave the rest to them. If they want to mingle more, ok with some limit as I am not gossiping type. I am not great in any way and also not inferior to any one. I have my own place and I respect others' place equally.

Life is but a stage and we are but bit players, that perhaps is not the exact famous phrase, but it touches on the gist of the message. I'm not really sure where I fit in. Most of the time I feel like an outsider, looking in. I see the world around me, and the events and people moving along their own paths that are often incompatible and oblivious to one another. The world views, and even self-importance of each person are so much at odds that it is ironic and even a little disturbing. It's as if there are billions of different worlds; one that each person sees and they are so different, and so abstract that it is hard for me to describe in a coherent manner. It all seems so meaningless to me, but that could be me projecting, because life and my place in this thing we call the world... does seem pointless and meaningless. I'm not sure who this world belongs too, or whose world it really is, that is which person or peoples viewpoint is correct. The only thing I am sure of, is that it is not mine, and honestly I don't really want to be a part of this game of life any longer.

I'm pretty sure that the world doesn't "belong" to anyone, filmbuff. I often feel like a fairly insignificant mote in fabric of the world. I think you need to take some time out of trying to be involved and spend some time getting to care for yourself again, because you can't care about anything if you don't care for yourself. I wish you were nearby and we could actually meet. I think you just need to be with people that don't expect anything from you. People that want to make you watch funny shows, or fun shows anyway, will feed you and let you pet cats - or dogs. People that don't want anything more from you than you can give. but I do think that I often can get to feeling like you do, I try to keep the open world view but find myself thinking - why do I bother? Then the cats tell me I have to pet them or feed them or whatever - they can love me or put me in my place pretty quick!

This was such an interesting discussion, I put it aside and still can't come up with my thoughts. I'm mostly an observer, I can't quite figure out people and how they live and interact most of the time. I'm fascinated by how people live their lives though. I also think people are so much more centered on self and maybe their small family circle and I don't see the the outreach going on as much as I would probably like. Most folks are revolving in their own little universe and I'm probably circling and circling around them all. I don't have the melancholy point of view of the #2 comment above though. It's like a mystery I can't solve I guess.

I think you are right that most people live their lives withing their own little universe. I do know that some people think that everyone else are just bit players on the stage of their lives and are of no consequence. I have actually heard a few say that other people don't matter, they don't exist for them. Sad, sad, sad. I think yours is a pretty healthy point of view, not unlike mine, when I actually THINK about it. Most of the time I think we don't think about these "lofty" ideas, we're too busy just trying to put supper on the table....
