I read this story about pologomy in Texas. Some LDS members set up a community. They were marrying off young girls to men as old as fifty. I am glad the authorities stepped in. I feel for those poor innocent children who had to deal with that kind of abuse. I am sure that the girls had no say in who they married or why they had to marry. They even had cousins marrying. Here is the story http://news.aol.com/story/_a/girls-removed-from-polygamist-ranch/20080404201909990001

Another example that society is slipping backwards. I sometimes wonder if we are living in the 18th century again but only this time we have the modern technology to go with it. This kind of thing can't happen and yet it does and it's horrific and very very sad, that humans can do this. I don't know who is worse those that organize it or those who agree to marrying these children, ewwww horrid, the punishments should be stiff, sorry but I have no compassion to people who use and abuse children at any age xxx

I think a lot of things go on behind the scenes of the LDS church that the general public has no idea about. It makes me ill to think of any kind of child abuse, but it is especially bad when they are using their religion to get by with it. Those poor girls don't have a chance at a normal life. How in the world can they believe it is ok to do this?

I know I just saw it a few posts back. It is terrible and I was under the impression that they don't do that anymore must be a small cult of lds

I think it is awful that they would treat children this way, heck to treat ANYONE this way is an abomination. That they were doing this as a church is just beyond comprehension.
I can only hope that each and everyone of the children can get past this and still become stable healthy adults. We can only guess at exactly what they have been through.

Just some more crazy whackos who use religion to overpower innocent people, and in this case, children. Absolutely disguisting. I'm really not that suprised since people use their religion to justify doing tons of horrible things now in days, as well as in the past.

I am all for people having the right to their own opinions and beliefs as long as no one is hurt but it is blatantly clear that people , especially girls are being hurt in this case - that is so wrong and I am glad that the police are involved! It would seem from what I have read that the so called leader who is in jail and awaiting trial on more charges of incest and rape of an underage girl is not the only person from this group who practises such thingsa and it is so very , very wrong, my heart breaks for these girls! xxx

That is awful. I cannot believe alot of things are still going on in the world today. It seems to only get worse for all of us. I think it is time to stop alot of it and make some good changes for everyone of us, especially for our children as well.

I'm so glad that someone stepped in. There are things going on in our country that are just horrific!! I just started a discussion a few minutes ago about something my mother saw on Oprah. I will say it again, God have mercy on our country!!!
