i suggest that you give your son a puppy. puppies are very playful and nice and i guess your son will love it

thanks for the idea. he loves the dogs my parents have, so that's up for an option.

Well your first thought is something that he could take care of easily with little help. I waited until my kids and I got a dog. My kids are currently 9,8,6,5,and 4. But I have always had cats. I think if your getting it for him you also have to think about what your willing to put into it how much time are you going to have to take care of the animal .. If you can afford the medical bills for an animal and if your gong to being able to spend the time either cleaning up after the animal or just plain spending time with the animal/pet. For as young as he is i would go with a fish. that way he can feed it and you only have to clean the tank once a week maybe less. But then you can see if he will continue to take care of it or get bored with it quickly and then abonden it. If he teakes good care of it then when he gets older you can think of getting him something with more responsibility.

That's a great idea.
I don't mind the Vet bills and helping him take care of the animal. A fish would be a good start to help him learn responsibility on his own.
Thank you!!!

when our daughter was 2 we got 2 hamsters that grew to 4! she got nipped now and again but learned how to handle such small mammals.
now we are getting a kitten for her.
i would go with the small rodent option first.

I had hamsters as a child. It's nice to have something that you can play with, and then put it back in it's cage.

I think that at this young age the pet you get him solely relies on what you'd like to take care of. However, seeing as I am assume you plan on keeping it for years I would get him a little puppy or kitten. Although, I would wait until he is atleast 3 before I get him a puppy, he is a little older and more understanding of animals. Make sure you do get him a young animal so that he may be able to grow with it!

I was thinking about that. I have a ferret, and he's less than 2. And so far they both do really well with each other. I've heard bad things about ferrets and little kids, but I haven't had any issues yet.
I would like to get him something of his own though. And getting a young animal and watching them grow together is something that I'm sure he would love.
Thank you!
