Spiritual rather than Religious

That's what I usually say I am. Spiritual rather than Religious.
If I have to classify myself; I'd say that I'm wiccan (with a native american bend).
But when it comes to religion and the ongoing fight over who's right and who's wrong, I say that really it doesn't matter.
I mean, it doesn't matter WHO you believe in; only that you BELIEVE and that you live each and every day according to those beliefs. Be honest and be true. Treat everyone with the utmost of respect and if their beliefs are different than yours - so be it. It doesn't make them any less of a person. Always keep your mind open and be willing to see the belief they have in their faith rather than focusing on the fact that their faith is not the same as yours.

Religions are different kinds of attitude for people lived in different areas. It should not be a differ between people, for there are so many wars and conflictions happened between people in a same country even same tribe, just for religion, which one is right, which one is wrong ?there is no standard answer, only different history and culture and living style made it.

Perhaps its just me and the guys I hang with but whenever I come accross this topic, I think of a friend of mine who says that "Spirituality is God given and the source of all that is good, while religion is man-made and the source of all that is evil."
I don't agree with everything in this. But I think the essential point is, we have a relationship with something higher than ourselves. Whether we call it God or not, this relationship is a source of happiness and inspiration to do better. Think of great artist who create master pieces - they may not call their inspiration God but somehow, there is something within them that inspires them to creat something spectacular.
On the other hand, you have religion. A way explaining ones relationship with the powers that be. It's amazing how people get so obsessed with their explination, they forget the source of all that is good. One of the biggest conflicts take place within sects of the same religion - just think of Protestants vs Catholics, Sunni's vs Shia's etc

hi there
no offence meant
but i think u r confused between humainaty and spritulaty
humanity is the way of reaching out the fellow human beings whereas being spiritual is way of reaching to god
and if u dont have religion u dont believe in him

I couldn't agree with you more. As long as you find what works for you and you are faithful, that's what matters. There are many paths and All of them are correct and will get you there so it is up to you to find the path that works for you.

I am a FREE-THINKER and I do consider myself as an spiritual rather than to be religious, for me religion is a school for our soul if there is a soul. But I rather say religion, is a place to put people in a right place. In whatever belief, we cannot deny religion has a very big factor in molding ones life.

karl marx once said "religion is the impotence to deal with occurances it cannot understand."
so i wud say that u don't have 2 go to a religious place to be a GOOD person. actions speak louder than words. so be nice to everyone. treat them with the max respect that u can offer.
this is what all the prophets taught their respective religions.... they never said that visiting the religious will make someone better.

I am the same as you,Wiccan of the native bend, and I also have many friends as well as family members of differant religious beleifs, and so long as they do not attemp to force me away from mine,we get along fine.
it is only when those fanatical beliefs that order us to exept their religion over my own, that I get upset.
I do hope someday to become a full witch, but untill I am able to fully control my temper over the fanatics, this may be tough.
I also use the spiritual designation over religious.
thank you for the discussion.

I class my Craft as a tradition rather than a religion. I'm Seax-Wicca, which is Wicca based but leans towards Anglo Saxon beliefs, Norse and Celtic. I suppose you might call that eclectic.
As for religion, I believe that nobody is wrong in their beliefs and everybody is right. Beliefs are what motivate you through life, and nobody can be wrong in that.
I agree with what you say, my friend. We should all respect each other's religions and beliefs. Brightest Blessings, always.
