- The Silent generation, people born before 1945. - The Baby Boomers, people born between 1945 and 1961. - Generation X, people born between 1962 and 1976. - Generation Y, people born between 1977 and 1989. Why do we call the last one generation Y? I am part of the baby boomer generation, what generation are you part of?

I am part of generation Y. I also don't remember what my friend told me about being called Y generation. This is what I searched @ teachers.net/wong/APR07/ Generation Y, or the Millennials, is a potential force of as many as 40 million. The first wave of Gen Ys is just now embarking on their careers as classroom teachers. They are products of a global economy, a connected, collaborative environment in which technology has allowed them to network. They are knowledge workers with ubiquitous access to powerful laptops and the know how to utilize 21st century technology and digital resources. They are socially adept at working in groups or teams and are avid users of online social networking, such as MySpace and FaceBook. A learning community is their forte, thus to work collaboratively in a group is second nature to them. The Generation Y can be described in four positive ways: 1. A generation that is confident, self-sufficient, and achievement-oriented 2. A generation that is the most education-minded in history 3. A generation paving the way to a more open, tolerant society 4. A socially conscious generation leading a new wave of volunteerism

According to my research I belong to Generation X. I was wondering why it was called Generation X. Apparently, it's the generation of great experimentaions and trials and errors that people deemed they don't wanna repeat. It's a very interesting information and thanks to you, I was never aware of this before.

What Happened the Year You Were Born? A Profile of the Baby Boom Years: 1946-1964 This site developed and maintained by http://www.babyboomers.com/ says that I am a baby boomer! Notice it includes those of us born in between 1961 and 1964! I think it went by how may children were born in those years!

Oh! I did not know that! Here in the United States, I have always been told that I was one of the youngest babyboomers! I do not feel like the other boomers, though, as those were also the hippies!

http://www.usatoday.com/money/workplace/2005-11-06-gen-y_x.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Y The term Generation Y refers to a specific cohort of individuals born from about 1978–1993. However this is disputed by demographers and varies across countries; so the years 1988-2008 is also somewhat widely used.[1] "Generation Y" alludes to a succession from Generation X, a term which was originally coined as a pejorative label by the Canadian fiction writer Douglas Coupland in 1991.[2] XY Cusp, also known as the MTV Generation, was caught between the end of Generation X and start of Generation Y, mainly living out their childhood through the 80s and teen years in the mid-90s. This generation was influenced by the launch of MTV, and the popularization of Web technology after 1995. Their peak is usually given as (1975-1985). http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080113012318AAX5lGp&show=7 I would definitely have to say that I was the XY cusp. becasue I was one of the MTV generation definitely. 1978 for me. LOL!!!

and here is why generation Y is generation Y. Generation Y, also known as the Echo Boom, or Millennial Generation, grew up with many world-changing events including the rise of mass communication, the Internet, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Y Generation is known as a Culture War "battleground" with growing disagreements between conservative and liberal perspectives.

I was born in 1985. So I am a 80s. In my country, people born after 1980 in most case is the only child in the family, thanks to the only child policy here. Now my generation is considered to be one lack of sense of responsibility, though I do not think so. For six people( our parents and grandparents) takes care of only one, so we usually can get waht we want without any problems in our childhood. But at that same time, when we are adults we should take care of our parents obkly by oursleves. I think to many of us, I try to enjoy ourselves when we are still young, for after that we may have heavy burden on our should, and have to focus on the competition in the society.

I am a Generation X baby! Silent Generation was coined as such to describe those born before 1945 and continued when William Manchester commented that members of this generation were withdrawn, cautious, unimaginative, indifferent, unadventureous and silent. This generation was also known as the Postwar Generation and the Seekers. Baby Boomers generation was coined to describe those born between 1946 - 1964 because it was during this time that American experienced an unusual spike in birth rates (commonly known as a baby boom). There was also a small portion of those born between 1954 - 1964 that were dubbed the Generation Jones. This group was part of the Baby Boom, but the events that generally occurred with the Boomers such as protests and the energence of rock music took place while the people of Generation Jones were still children or early teens. Generation X was used to describe those born between 1965 - 1982. It was named so because this generation was referred to as the "baby bust" because of the small number of births following the baby boom. It was also called the 13th Generation. Generation Y is a bit confusing as there are several years that overlap. Generation Y is claimed as describing those born between 1977 - 1994 and are counted as being the largest generation since the Baby Boomers. The name "Generation Y" was used because they were still too young to have forged a name for themselves. Other than "Y" they also go by Echo Boomers and the Millenium Generation. Generation Z has been used to refer to today's newborns, but is used more often to refer to people born 1994 - 2009. This will be the first full generation to be born into a digital world. All that being said, it's not uncommon for members of one generation to feel as if they belong more with a different generation and there are all sorts of cusp combinations the more you look. Generations are as varied as the Zodiacs once you start looking at cusps and whatnot. You are who you are and that will never change, but now if someone asks what generation you are, you might be able to answer the question

actually im from generation Y but i dont know what it means about it,when i check in the internet this come out from my search :::: United States of America The term “echo boom” (used in reference to Gen Y) refers to a five year span between 1989 and 1994 when for the first time since 1964, the number of live births in the US reached over four million. Previously, even the rate of 1965 (3.76 million) was not reached until 1985. Also, the birthrate of 1971 (3.56 million) has yet to be reached according to the 2000 US census.[4] If the years 1988–2000 are used, as is common in market research, then the size of Generation Y in the United States is approximately 76 million.[5] This also another one: Generation Y defined sociographically Facebook, MySpace, SMS and other instant communication technologies may explain Generation Y's reputation for being peer oriented and for seeking instant gratification. Generation Y, like other generations, is shaped by the events, leaders, developments and trends of its time. [6]

I'm apart of Generation X, I barely made it. I was born in the year of 1976. I wonder why we are called the Generation X and why is 1977-1989 Generation Y. This is interesting to say the least. This might sound stupid, but was the Silent generation named that because of the silent picture movies, Or was it because of something else?

I am a baby boomer. I was born in 1957. I never heard of any of the other generations being called what you state here. I have to say I like it. My son is a generation X and my daughter is a generation Y. But there is no difference in their personalities since they grew up together and learned to do the same things. I don't mean they have the same personaliies but they do think a lot alike and lead their lives very similar.

yep the personalities have nothing to do with it as much as the time period they were born, that is the difference, but there are personality difference that are influenced according to time periods, for example the people growing up during the depression are generally more frugal, then kids of today that waste everything because they have never had to go without.

Wow, really??? So I belong to Generation Y. I don’t know that my generation has that calling name. How about yours, why your generation is called as Baby Boomers? Oh, by the way, what do we call the generations after the one I belong to? It seems like Generation Y is not the last generation. Gen Z for the next one?

Hey winterose! I found some slightly different info on the generations. I've always been told I was part of Gen X (being born in 1979,) so that's why I looked it up. This is what I found on About.com. 2001-present - The New Silent Generation OR Generation Z 1980 - 2000 - Millenials or Generation Y 1965 - 1979 - Generation X 1946 - 1964 - Baby Boom 1925 - 1945 - The Silent Generation 1900 - 1924 - The G.I. Generation So you'd actually be part of the Silent Generation from this interpretation. I mean, who actually makes up these names? The Silent Generation? The only ones that make even a little bit of sense to me are the G.I.'s and the Baby Boomers. And what will happen after Generation Z (or the even less creative New Silent Generation)?

no I am a baby boomer, that does not change for me, this stuff is not accurate that you produced. the baby boomers are born after the war 1945 - 1961, 62, 63, 64 depending upon the country.
