I've been selling magazine subscriptions on ebay for a few years and making some good money doing it. I haven't had one unhappy customer and a lot of repeat customers. As per publication policy I always put in my listing that it will take 8-10 weeks for the first subscription to arrive and most have received theirs in less time than that. Yesterday I started to relist some of my magazines and got a pop up saying that magazine subscriptions are no longer allowed to be sold on ebay because of the time it takes for the buyer to receive it!
What I don't get is if the buyer doesn't mind why should ebay? Are they going a little overboard now with their new rules? Do you think there is any way I can get around it?

Probably not. eBay is just getting more ridiculous with their rules and fees for the sellers. They expect a seller to just give their stuff away by rewarding those of us that start our auctions at 99 cents or less. I haven't listed on eBay since Christmas, as I pay more in fees than I earn!
Some of the buyers are complainers and do not know how to read. I really don't see the problem, if you put in your listing that it would be 8-10 weeks for the first subscription to arrive. If people read that properly and bought anyway, what is the big frickin' problem??
They have gone way overboard with their rules to sellers and have not supplied a single life jacket!
PEACE

I was surprised to get an email from a previous buyer yesterday asking when I would be listing more magazine subscriptions. I think I should send it to ebay just to prove my point....I'm sure it wouldn't work though...lol..

I am an artist and a lot of us artists are kinda fed-up with eBay and are moving onto other sites. We don't like the new policy about sellers not being able to leave negative feedback for a buyer, but buyers can leave negative feedback for sellers. We also don't like the way they changed the categories in the art section, either. I am going to wait for a while before I relist. A lot of artists aren't selling anything right now.

I know what you mean. I had the same experience yesterday. I didn't realize they weren't allowing sales of teacher's editions (homeschool curriculum) on there anymore, so my listing was removed! I don't understand some of the new rules either. It's very frustrating. I'm not sure how to get around it....
It used to be that eBay was how a person could make a bit of extra $$, but now it's more difficult than ever.
I hope it works out for you...is there any other site on which you could sell?

A couple of thoughts:
* Why are your buyers buying magazine subscriptions from you on eBay? Are they buying these subscriptions for the actual product itself, or for the combination of the product and your positive feedback?
If these buyers are actually interested in the product, and not in the feedback, then you might find other ways to sell your subscriptions. Set up a website through which customers can make their purchases (or email their selections to you). Then direct traffic to your site through eBay's classified system. (It's a little more expensive than a regular listing but lasts a little longer, and there's no feedback given, but it may still result in sales for you.)

Hello. I must add my 2 cents in to this topic a year later as I have just found it. ctrymuziklvr, unfortunately ebay made this change, you are right but do you remember when you signed up with the clearinghouses you push your subscriptions through? It states "NO ONLINE AUCTION SALES". So it should not matter if Ebay changed their policy cause you should not be selling there anyway.
I am sure you were selling the subscriptions for WAY less then the subrate anyway. This being the reason agents are not allowed to sell on Ebay.
Ebay magazine sellers are what the industry calls "rogue agents". Let me explain. As stated above agents must following the pricing guidelines set by the clearinghouse/publisher. This price is called a subrate in the industry. This is against the clearinghouses/publishers rules as is selling on Ebay. So rogue agents sell subscriptions for way less then the subrate and make a killing in volume sales. Once they are caught by the publisher/clearinghouse, they rogue agent is blackballed and can no longer sell subscriptions. Hence the reason EVERYONE will eventually get screwed by these rogue sellers. The rogue seller then signs up to the clearinghouse with a family member or friends name and different business name and starts the process over again.
So why all the complaints of people not getting there subscription from Ebay sellers? Cause everyone eventually gets caught no matter how good you think you are and you take all the customers down with you.
So Ebay had to change their policy because of these rogue agents. BUT, they should not had to do anything cause if you ran a legit business, you would not be selling on ebay in the first place.

Your rogue sellers concept is a fictitious explanation why they're being shut down by eBay.Research the facts and try again.

yep
We have really enjoyed using ebay as a source for renewing our mag subscripts. and last week or two I have gotten notices in my email from those I had most recently purchased from - that they will no longer be permitted to list mag subs on ebay. They assured me my orders will go through as expected... and gave me information on how to still order through them at a different website.
I was glad that they made themselves still available through another avenue.

It could be that a few people did have complain that their subscriptions took too long (but actually did not). There are too many complainers in this world and as they say the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
