I promised after my ability of being able to cut and paste I would post my poetry....All my poetry is copyrighted....
As I sit here and think,
of all the things I have done.
Of all the battles fought,
all the wars won.
I stand for the freedoms,
that we have held so dear.
As we send boys to war,
families are left here.
No matter where you go,
no matter where you look.
You will find the future,
hiding in a book.
Is it 1776?
1984?
Do we cross the boarders,
as we ask for more.
Can you understand the beaches,
they truly are nice.
Unless your sleep is disturbed,
by shouting and lights.
As war is outbreaking,
in more than one place.
My question is this,
are we ready for what we face?
Freedoms taken,
speech to be destroyed.
Become an "enemy combatant"
and become deployed.
Speak out about the Government,
proud and true.
Tell the truth behind the lies,
that is what I do.
Placing freedom on the line,
securities could be sorted.
Hey maybe if I upset them enough,
I can even get water boarded.
Sounds like a good time,
vacation paid for.
Its not just about GitMo,
there is defiantly more.
All that has been hidden,
all of the lies.
Another soldier sent home,
as one more dies.
They stand and fight for what they believe,
no one ever will blame them.
Bad mouthing those girls and boys,
destroy them once again.
Never give up the 1st Amendment right,
stand and believe.
The future is that of what our minds,
can truly conceive.
Now that you have read this,
I hope you see.
I write to protect our freedoms,
lives, soldiers, and liberties.

Thank you I am a Poet and a writer and a journalist all in one, as well as a phone actress. Yes it is what you are thinking for the phone actress.

That's beautiful and amazing, Ainge. You put into verse so much of what I feel. Congrats on your cut and paste "privilege" so hopefully you'll share much more of your work with us.
Just now as I'm typing this with your post above your words "Sounds like a good time, vacation paid for" jumped out at me. I have a nephew and a great nephew currently in Afghanistan and another nephew (the father of the great nephew) who is most likely going to Iraq in a few months and the two younger ones are both just 2 years old and to them joining the military was a way to see the country and the world for "free" and to get an education when they return. You know how young people are - nothing bad will happen to them, it only happens to "other" people". Many people say all of our troops have volunteered, they know what could happen, that they could go to war and they could die, but do they really KNOW? I hope that makes some sense to you.
It's great to know there is someone who understands and agrees that it is possible to support our troops with every thread of our being without supporting all or part of what our country is doing or has done, without agreeing with our being in one or both wars or STILL being there. This is a very emotional issue to me these days. I thought it had been before; my state has lost over 200 troops in Iraq alone and I've had friends with loved ones there and I've worried myself sick about them but now with my own nephews there I really see what it feels like on a much more personal basis.
Sorry for rambling on like this, Hon. I sure didn't want to take anything from this discussion away from your beautiful poem! The point is, you poem really touched the whole essence of the times in which we're living. Keep up the good work, I look forward to reading more.

Thank you so much for the BR and for your kind words and prayers! I'm so glad for you that you'll be writing for the military publication and I'll look forward to reading it. You're so right, we do have the freedom to speak out against that with which we disagree and I admire your courage and determination. Thanks again! Hugs to you.

Annie,
Wow, your response brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing and in the same breath, I am so sorry to hear your news. It is painful to read what you have written because this war has touched every one of us. We all have someone who is connected, been there, we are all so afraid that our "son", "daughter", "nephew" or any other combination, friends included.
However I want people to know they can do something here on the home front, get informed, question, demand results, that is what makes this country so great. We are all soldiers in our own way. Mine is the gift of verse, to pass forward to the drummer to play. If that makes sense.
Your words touched my very being and rocked me to the core how similar we are. I am thankful for that. I shall hold your family in my prayers as I shall you. Please take care and thank you for sharing your touching story.
Thank you for the encouragement. I have been accepted upon staff at a military paper. The poem that is being first published is "Yes, Drill Sgt. Sir." I am very excited, I also have been signed by a Christian record label for my gift of verse. It is not much yet, however with the men and women who sacrifice their very being, I feel it is my honour and responsibility to fight the way I know how.
Thank you again,
Ainge
