Your depression is there for a reason and anti depressants bury your reasons for being depressed. Often we do not know why we are depressed which is why it feel so difficult to know what to do. It is perfectly natural to be depressed when some one dies or we loose our job, or get into finacial difficulties these things can be addressed and help can often be found. Financial advisors, bereavment advise and career help is readily available to many. But what happens when you feel low and down and everything in your life is running fairly smoothly. Whats going on then?
Often there is a part of you that is not willing to be seen , a part of you that is'nt looking at what is beneath your depression and low moods. When we go to the doctor he is hardly experienced in understanding depression and often will give anti depressants because that is the only option he has. This option adds to the under ground resaons for your depression, burying it deeper into the psyche. And before you know it insomnia sets in, either over eating or under eating is a problem, lethagy sets in, things seem to get worse and depression deepens. All too often we look to others doctors, therapists etc to help us to be well, wellness is a two way process, a pill will not take away the underlying issues of why you are depressed, this is your job.
