When I married my husband, he had two English Bulldogs. I had a cat. It was kind of like two parents with children getting married. I like dogs, but my cat was my buddy. He always slept at the foot of my bed. I had him for years before I even met my husband.
All of our original pets have died now, my cat Boo at the age of 14, but my husband still has a Bulldog. Since we are temporarily living in a small apartment, the dog is residing in my kitchen. I find the mess she makes very irritating; tracking in mud from the back yard, etc.
I want another cat, but my husband has declared that we don't have enough room. I could probably throw a fit and insist on having a cat, but he does have a point. Where would we put the litter box? Where would we even put his food bowl, since the dog is in the kitchen?
Tell me about your mixed-marriage (dog and cat). Do you have his and her pets? Have you bonded with your spouse's pet? Do the pets get along?

You sound very unhappy with this new dog, who is trying to assert herself as a member of your family. Through no fault of your cat, or the new dog, there is not a good mix. I would recommend finding and talking to a Jack Russell Rescue group (found on the internet) and find your newest member a home where she can be appreciated and loved. Jack Russell terriers are highly intelligent and extremely active. They are also very territorial. People who love Jack Russells wouldn't have them any other way but they can be disruptive in a household that is not geared towards their "take charge" personalities. JRs are wonderful little dogs with the right owners. I would talk to your husband about finding your new doggie a "Jack Russell family" where she can be fully appreciated - and not terrorize your poor kitty.
