Would you rather watch a sunrise or a sunset?

I think that although they are both lovely to watch, a sunset is so beautiful the colours of the sky and how it changes is just stunning. When it is summer and warm, there is nothing better than sitting outside and watching the sunset and listen to the birds sing, the sounds, the smells it is all just beautiful. The picture I have put to this discussion is not one I have taken, but I think that this year I may just have a go at snapping my own sunset pics, cannot do sunrise, way too early for me!
So what is your favourite, sunrise or sunset?
Does anyone take photos of things like that? If so, I would love to see some if you have any.

I'd rather watch a sunrise. It represents the dawning of a new day, new attitudes, new beginnings versus a sunset which means another day is over and that the door is shutting on the experiences of that particular day.

I can definately see why people would prefer to see a sunrise, I just wish I could get up early enough to enjoy one and feel happy about getting up so early!!

To have hope is a good thing, to a lot of people it seems sunrise has the meaning of new life and new day and hope for better things, I just see it as for some reason I am up too early!!

You are right, these are both lovely to watch but since I am not an early riser, I prefer to watch the sunset especially when in the beach. I get to think all the things that I have accomplish within the day and it somehow gives me peace of mind!

I am not usually awake early enough to watch a sunrise, but I stay up late at night, so I'll have no problem watching a sunset. I think I would rather watch the sunset, because it happens at a more convenient time or me, if that makes any sense at all.

I love watching both. My dining room faces east, so I can watch the sun come up whilst eating breakfast. Then, my living room and garden face west, so I can sit in either and watch the sun go down, whilst reading a book, or just simply taking in Nature and its wonders.
I'm posting a photo of sunrise in Ohio, on an October morning, which a friend of mine took and sent to me. It shows that sunrise can be equally as beautiful as sunset.
Brightest Blessings my friend.

Depends on whether you are coming or going. Going East on Interstate 10 in AZ, NM and TX the sunrise it the most beautiful. However, coming West on Interstate 10 in the same places, the sunset is absolutely breath taking.

No, I don't get up early normally. I should have clarified...I live in the city and you aren't allowed to see the sun rise or set cause of all the buildings - on a clear day I can see the mountians that I am about 20 miles south of. But the rises nad sets I love and remember like they were yesterda - was I used to travel by car with my kids back and forth between Odeass Tx and Southern california. We needed to make time as I could only afford one night's hotel bill (thanks to Motel 6!) So if I didn't leave early enough, not only did we miss the beautiful sun rise, but we didnt' get into town (Tucson - my half way point - well actually Benson or Wilcox) to get a room before falling asleep at the wheel, and if we stopped to soon, we'd miss the sunset! Nothing prettier than that sunset (if I had to choose I'd choose sunset) in the desert! Full sky as far as you can see and nothing but the most beautiful colors you've ever seen!

You get up early too then do you, when I get up it is already light now, so I do not really see sunrises that often.

Hi, Gemini! Great question. I love your answer to your own question as well. (LOL) Morning is too early for me too! I'm right there with you. Obviously, my favorite is a sunset. When I read your description, I just imagined being with my fiance, the love of my life, walking on the beach along the ocean on a beautiful summer evening in southern Florida. The colors in the sky are radiant and touching. I'm sure I've gotten pictures of sunsets before, but the picture that's painted in my mind of such a scene cannot be described or captured on a camera. Sunsets are more beautiful to me also because I think they're more romantic! I'm a night owl and just love staying up late...even after sunset, of course. In the morning, that's the time to sleep in. I'm sure sunrise is pretty as well because it's the opening of a brand new day. Some days, sunrise is earlier than others. A sunset is like the conclusion to a wonderful day. I believe it's more relaxing because we have another exciting day under our belt and can still look forward to another day following sunrise the following day. I don't know if I described it well...but there's just something about sunset that gives me chills!

You described it perfectly, and what a beautiful place you live in to experience it, I can imagine that in summer it is just perfect there. I am a night owl too, and stay up way too late for my own good, but that is just the way I am I guess, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

You and I are a lot alike as far as this discussion is concerned. I'm such a night owl, too, that it's not even funny! We stay up for our own good just like you said. It was funny because last night I had to force myself to go to bed "early," which was still after midnight so I could get up a half hour early and be to work early. That was tough! I guess it's all about what our bodies get used to. We get on a set schedule and can't break ourselves of it. Thanks for your awesome comment. Take care, Gemini!

Both of them are equally as lovely to watch, however, I must agree with you in saying that a sunset is much more worthwhile. The vibrance of color and the everlasting chance that the skies colors will be different from each sunset brings me joy. I love watching it as I ride home from whatever!

They are a beautiful part of life and nature, when the sun sets and rises and becomes so big, I look at it and it just amazes me to think about what it really is.

I happen to enjoy watching both but it also depends on the location as to which I prefer. Watching a sunrise over a the ground is breathtaking but if it's over water a sunset is better. How the sun seems to melt into the water and the colors blur and blend. It's just incredible to me. I think the most beautiful sunset I ever saw was when I was in the Western United States. I not only had a lake but also mountains. Just before sunset we'd had some rain so when the sunset we had a double rainbow with it. My father actually got a picture of it, wish I still had a copy of it. It was an amazing presentation of nature in all her glory.

I also think that sunset is better over water, it just looks so different, I have seen double rainbows they are brilliant, I love rainbows anyway and me and the kids always rush to find them when we have had sunshine and rain!

Oh I love rainbows as well. I've seen a few double ones over the years but not too often so they still remain a treat.

Sunsets are definitely more beautiful and captivating compared to sunrises. The rich hues of red, orange and yellow in sunsets are a sight to behold. I'd love to see a real stunning sunset like the one in the picture I've attached, but so far, I've not been that fortunate to see anything half as close to this. I read so much that tourists go to Promthep Cape at the southern tip of Phuket to watch the beautiful sunsets there. There is a very quick video here posted by someone http://youtube.com/watch?v=d_fSexn4hO4&feature=related who was there. So one evening, I actually drove there on one of my trips to this island, but the sunset I witnessed was rather disappointing probably because it was a rather cloudy day. Maybe I'll try again the next time I fly over to Phuket.

That is a beautiful photo, it would be lovely to see them like that. It must be so lovely to travel and see these gorgeous things I wonder if I will ever get to see any of the world outside of the UK, I hope so, quite impossible at the moment though.
