One I was working as a secretary many years ago, I was quite young. The boss was hard to get along with. Every friday I had to remind him that he had to hand out the paychecks to the people in the plant,
but if he was in the office with his door closed I was not allowed to go in or interrupt him on the phone, I had to hold all his calls,
he would sometimes come out and say I only want to hear from you if so and so calls for me,
and so if that person called I would let it through, if I called him or went to the door for anything else he yelled at me.
Well here it was on friday and he closed his door before I had time to tell him he had to give people their paychecks. I didn't know what to do,
the people waited on the steps for their paycheck and his door was still closed.
I told the people I couldn't do anything about it, I was not allowed to interrupt him, I thought he knew he was supposed to give them the paycheck and he just didn't care
Anyway the workers went home, with no pay check and I got seriously yelled at again, he asked me how could I be so stupid, these were people's money.
I didn't say anything, after he put it that way he was right.

now to me he was wrong to have hollered at you specialy after he has told you not to get him when the door was closed.
It was his fault.
and also the workers if they wanted their check one of them should have knocked on the door.
sorry this has made me mad and I cant think of a thing I ever did silly lol hugs

they were not allowed in the office, none of them would have done that. When a person isn't in the situation is very easy to say what should have been done, but you have to be there at the time and understand how the place worked and the pressure for job security etc.

Now that is a situation that you got yelled at either way you went. I would have been scared and mad all at the same time. But I wouldn't have let him put any of the blame on me that it was my fault that people went home without checks when it is his for telling you not to interupt him. The stupidest thing I can ever recall doing at work was when I helped the Dollar store pack up and move. The woman explained to us to pack up the boxes with the products on the shelf. So stupid me packed a big box with a whole shelf of shampoos and conditioners and hairsprays..well when one of the boys that was to pick the boxes up and tote them away to the moving van tried to lift mine he almost pulled his back out and the woman came over and asked what I had packed in their and I told her what I had and she said nothing for a minute and then opened the box told me to empty it back up and then only put one layer of the shampoos then fill the rest of the box up with soft light things like the pillows, blankets, comforter sets. I felt really stupid for that mistake. But after that I had no problems. Now if I work I am very careful and ask lots of questions.

Well, I am sure they later kicked themselves for doing so since they lost such a good employee. You were in the right and only done what you were told to do at the time. Well, I am also sure you were better off without that tyrant as a employer.

There was this boss once that totally scared the living daylights out of me. She was like this army lieutenant, and was so severe and rude! One morning, i was supposed to open the store at 8h00 (started my shift at 7h30) but the previous night me and my friend rented a few sappy movies and i slept over her house. She put her alarm clock for 6h30...AT NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! So obviously...i was not in at work...woke up at 9h30! I was like that's it, she is soooooooo gonna fire me!! So i called, invented this whole story of how i had this allergic reaction last night and spent the whole night in the hospital...she bought it , but asked for a proof! So, me and my friend spent the whole day at the local library ( neither i, or she had a pc at the time) to write this hospital paper, with the scanned logo of one of the local hospitals, and then printed it out. The next morning, i brought it to her, and prayed the Lord she wouldn't notice it was a fake..about 1/2 later, she called me up in the office...I TOUGHT, THAT'S IT RIGHT? She wanted to talk to me about something else..i was sooooo relieved...5 yrs later, i was working up in the office and went into my file (ok, i wasn't supposed to but anyways..) and that "doctor's paper" was still there, along with the few real ones i had given over the yrs. It looked so fake!! LOL

I would have been afraid to knock on or open his door also if he was that rude. It was actually his responsibility to make sure to give you the checks to hand out anyway or someone else. I don't think I have done anything silly or stupid at work.
I have done a stupid thing at schooll though. I was walking with my head down after school, to the school bus, I never looked up but was counting the busses out of the corner of my eye because I knew where mine would be located. somehow, I miscounted and I got on the bus and sat down. I looked around me and did not know why these kids were on my bus. I was on the wrong bus and was so embarrassed about that for days. Kids laughed at me in school about that.

The stupidest thing I ever done at work or school is nothing compared what your's was. When I was in the Navy and on a ship, I was told to be very careful of how I went down the stairs because of non skid at the bottom. Well, being a newbie, I thought I could slide down from the top without using my feet like I have seen the other guys do it. Well, I was going good until I got to the bottom and slipped and hit my knees on the non skid. Luckily my dungerees didn't rip to show my torn up knees. I learned fast on how to put my feet down right before I hit the bottom.
Also I had to learn fast when I was going through a hatch, to pick up my feet. Basically the first month, I'm amazed my knees didn't get destroyed even more than what I put them through. After a month, I began to slide down the stairs and go through hatches at nice speeds like a pro.

Oh, I was a secretary too. There was one funny and stupid incident happened to me. It was in the morning, I was so busy doing the routine job when my boss came out and ask for a diskette. I looked at him and asked "Biscuits? We don't have biscuits," came my replied. My boss with looked at me with a smile on his face and said it again, "No, diskette, ellie." I still thought he was saying biscuit so I said it again to him no biscuit available in the office. The he laughed, took one of my diskette and said "No biscuits but diskette." Then I realized what he was requesting. I was so ashamed and felt really stupid. I thought, what in the world would a boss as a biscuit from his secretary.

When I was in my first year in the university, I had to take an extra subject besides the Mathematics and Physics subjects. It was a toss between Chemistry and Biology. Since my Chemistry was not that great, I opted for Biology. The only problem was I had not studied biology before even in college days, while most of the other students had. We would have Zoology lectures in the morning, and in the afternoon there was laboratory on what was taught, and usually these involve dissection of animals, usually insects. I was usually quite lost during lectures, because the Biology terms were rather greek to me. One day, during laboratory practicals, we were supposed to apply what was taught during lectures in the morning, dissect some animal and then look into the microscope and draw what we saw into our Biology books. I did like the others, but frankly, I don't know what to look out for. So I just drew what I saw in the microscope, which of course ended up looking like any object one sees with the eye. Then along came the lecturer. She looked at my drawing, and then loudly commented "No, I don't want an artistic drawing. I want a Biological drawing. You have to draw the different parts of the cross-section, and then label the parts which are important." I could hear the giggles all around me when the lecturer said that. I was kind of embarrassed, because I couldn't follow the morning lesson and know what all these parts were that should be emphasized. To me, a drawing is a drawing, and that's what I saw and that's what I drew. Needless to say, I didn't do that well in my Biology paper at the end of my first year in the university. Luckily, I could drop one subject from the second year because we had to specialize, and you guessed it, I dropped Biology. Thank heavens!!

I remember some stupid things I did and I want to share one. But it happened not at school or work but at home back when I was still a kid.
I am a very curious person. I usually destroy things because of my curiosity - my first watch, my toys, our appliances, etc. That's the price I pay for indulging in my unbridled childhood curiosity.
Well it happened that I once had a toy car, a big one actually, which had some wires inside it as its components. It was a remote control car so I guess, I had to have some wires for operation. Anyway, I got so curious and eventually found myself deconstructing the car. Therein I saw two wires, one red and one blue, which connects to all the lights of the car, to the machine which makes it work and to the battery pack. I removed the batter and disentangled the wire, thinking that if I could put these wires into an electric outlet, it would work. Guess what I did?
Right. I got the two wires and had them inserted in an electric outlet at home and.... BOOM, a part inside the toy car exploded. I was left dumbfounded for two things: that I was surprised at the little explosion, and that I did it in front of my mum. And I was severely punished for my stupidity.
Hope that ticks. lol

No I feel you were right, how dare him act like he was so importmant and that no one else matters. If he was such a good boss he should have treated his employees right and remembered they work for their money, no one should have to remind him it is payday.

Stupidest thing that I ever did.. well there are many but I would like to share 2 here
1) We had finals exams and i was in the tenth grade. In India we have a languages Hindi and the local language called Telugu to study. But before exams i was so confident about them that i forgot to see the schedule and went to the Hindi exam studying Telugu. Luckily i had already studied everything before hand and at the exam I didn't panic [ not that type though]. After i went home, I was given such a good lecture by mum, that I felt that I could get no stupider.
2) well that didn't end there. Back in high School, we had lab exams for which we had to submit lab records. So much for my folly, that i forgot the lab records and went to the exam. I later had to convince the principal that I had forgotten the lab records and have to go back and get them from home.
I'm stupid most of the times.. No wonder about that.. but I like it that way.. kinda brings joy to life.
