Usually I check all pockets before doing laundry. But I missed this one. I heard the clanging in the wash cycle but all that did was annoy me. Finally I went to check it out and sure enough . . . I found the cell phone swimming in suds. It was wet and very blurry but would you believe I was able to dry it out and got it working again? So what's the most interesting item you've washed?

You wouldn't be the only one who has done this.My husband accidently dropped his mobile phone in a fire.Somehow how he retrieved it without gett8ing burnt & it still worked after,.
When I do the washing, I find all sorts of things.
In my opinion, it is not the fault of the asher, but the person who didn't remove items from their pockets before they dumped their clothes in the dirty clothes basket.
The most interesting item I have washed is a $20 note.

Wow! great that cellphone is very durable and you are good as well because you made it work again. That is very good as cellphone is one of the things that is valuable and it will just be wasted if it will not work again. Me, so far i haven't yet accidentally washed some things like that maybe just paper bill so far.

Yeah, we do have insurance on the phone but it takes a little bit of paperwork and it's just a hassle. Or at least that's what I think. I'm just glad it worked. It seems like everyone has washed paper, money or otherwise. Unavoidable, I guess. Thanks for stoppin' in, Cheenlly. Hope you have a wonderful week.

Wow! Is it working?! Should be very good.
I have always caring for things on pockets but some weeks ago I put my leggings with a pedometer on washing macchine and guess, it has never work again, of course it is not the same equipment but both are electronics. Perhaps the cellphone is protected against water like the watches and then no damage. Lucky!

LOL We used to have a foster kid that was terrible about that. I washed car keys, money (large bills), change, medicines, work badges, driver's licenses, cell phones, you name it. With 10 ppl in the house I did not have time to check every pocket so if it went through the wash it was mine. The worse thing was lighters...those things can blow up in a dryer. That was something that I'd raise h*ll about. The foster kid I mentioned had to replace her driver's license like 6 times b/c she couldn't or wouldn't remember to empty her pockets.

Ah I would have been a little upset myself. Did you laugh when it started ringing though? Great timing.

That's realy something interesting. My mother once washed a $50 bill that my Dad left in his pocket. That was something interesting. She hung the bill on the clothesline, and dried it. It was his own fault for not emptying his pockets.

Seems like money is a popular thing to wash. LOL. Your mom actually hung a $50 bill outside on the clothesline? And nobody swiped it. Sweet.

No, no damage as far as I can tell. And like you daughter he's dropped it a few times too. Luckily it's been on the carpet and then just slid on the tiles. Losing stuff in the snow is a little hard in sunny Southern Cal, lol, though it did snow for a couple of days here in the desert last year. No lost cell phones yet.

Just money.... not very interesting, I know. I don't put many things in my pockets. But I do have a tendency to put wadded up bills in my pocket.
I have a 3 yr old little boy. I suspect the contents of my laundry will become more interesting in the next several years.

It is strange, but apparently I'm not the only who was able to rescue a wet phone. Weird huh, but like I've said before, I am grateful.

Oh no, but at least it dried out and still works, my son dropped mine into water and it was only two weeks old and has never worked since. I think no matter how many times we check the pockets something always manages to get passed us. I have washed toy soldiers, pebbles and shell from the beach, coins, gift cards, money notes, hair bands and the worst one tissues, yuk, what a mess to sort after eh! Ellie :D

Ellie, I hope you had insurance on that phone. By the way, when you wash gift cards or credit cards do they still work. It seems like the magnetic stripped would be de-magnetized, or something like that. And yukkie, washing tissues would make a nice mess. LOL. I doubling checking pockets from now on. :)

No I never had insurance for it but I got a load out the machine today and guess what I found a Lypsil tube, will I ever learn. I don't know about the mag strips as I have yet to take to shop to find out and thankfully have never washed a credit card as don't possess one. Ellie :D

This could turn into a "what strange things can we find in your pockets" discussion. LOL.

Sorry to hear that. I'm still not sure why some of these phones work even after it gets waterlogged while others don't survive. It's a mystery.

Most intresting I don't know there has been some odd things in my washer, I have kids too lol. Most anoying!?!? GUM! A whole pack of gum in a pocket, killed a whole load of laundry. I really could have hung that kid out to dry lol. (pun intended)
Just remember your washing the cell phone wasn't your fault! It was his for not taking it out of his pocket. I have a rule. If its in your pocket come laundry time its MINE. I'v made a lot of allowances back that way!

I like that. Everything left in the pockets will now be mine. Of course, I really wouldn't have a need for an extra cell. Still, my kids do leave lots of paper money in their pockets. I'm rich!

Hi there. I didnt exactly wash my cellphone, but one day a couple of years ago, I was out watching my husband surf, I was sitting on the rocks and my phone fell and dropped into a rock pool, I grabbed it out all soaked and started to dry it as much as I could with a towel and lay it in the sun, when we got home, I didnt try it out, I just put it straight into the hot water cylinder cupboard, I got it the next morning and the darn thing worked, I was stoked haha. So I believe your sons phone still worked. Have a great day girl...

Maybe both phones still worked because we worked on drying it right away. Who knows, I'm just glad it was still working. I hope it didn't ruin a perfectly good day on the beach.

I had a friend that done that when he texted me to tell me what he done i just had to laugh. I think the worst thing i washed was safety pins. My son had used them to pin up the rip in the bottom of his jeans. (Don't ask who knows how a teenagers mind works).Anyway i said to him before you put them in the wash remove the safety pins. Of course he didnt remove all of them and they ended up in the machine. Which ended up blocking it up so my partner was not too impressed as he had to unblock it. Luckily enough no harm was done.

Beat this one.. I usually eat gum and after I'm done with it, wrap it in a small piece of paper and throw it in the trash. But I had done the same one day and since no trash can was in the vicinity, I put that in my pocket. I also forgot to get that out of the pocket when it was going for laundry. Bingo. The water softened the paper and tore it and the gum rolled out of the paper and got stuck to the inners of the pocket and was stuck there for the rest of the trouser's life. Never had the opportunity to wash a cell phone, but many other things like money notes, letters, and bits of papers esp have found their way to a watery grave

That's some sticky lining there. Well, at least things won't fall out of the pocket too easily.

Wet, sticky, green gum all over your clothes doesn't sound very tasty. How did you get it out?
