Have you ever felt like God has forgotten about you?

I was brought up to think that God loves all of his children equally and if we pray he will be there for us. I used to believe the saying "God doesn't give us more than we can handle"....all that stuff! When my Dad passed away 20 years ago at only 61 years old I started having my doubts. After a few years I made my peace with God and for years things went along ok and I was starting to believe again. Then 2008 comes and my world has been shattered with the deaths of my Mom and Aunt within months of each other and now my ex and his heart problems. There are some smaller things going on in my life that I'm able to handle but I can't help but think that God has completely forgotten about me or is testing me in some way. I keep asking what does he want from me and of course get no answers just more "stuff" happens that makes me question more. I'm not the most religious person but I always believed there was a God but lately I'm wondering what kind of God is he? Why does he put us through so much pain and anguish? Does he have a reason? I've read and still read the bible and can't find the answers.
