It's possible that the career of cooking will provide a good future for your friend, but it really depends on him, and the time and effort he is willing to make, While I love cooking, cooking school is very expensive, and the schedules of a new cook, and even of the most famous cooks leave a lot to be desired. You will always work breakfast, lunch dinner, and many nights late nights. Also new cooks usually have to begin at the bottom of the totem pole (the same as in any profession) and have to be prep cooks, the chef's helpers that chop and prepare everything. If your friend knows the pros and cons and is still interested, encourage him.

Food is always a good career as people always need to eat, and if you enjoy cooking then it is a great career to have.

Bobby Flay started as a dish washer, I think Emeril did as well. Rachael Ray worked at Howard Johnson's then did demonstrations at fairs and stuff. Paula Deen was a broke housewife making sandwiches and selling them to the downtown crowd in the beginning. If that is his passion, I say go for it. How old is he? His parents need to let him make his own decisions regarding his future, as long as he does not live beyond his means. If you do something you like or love in life, you will be happy and prosperous! He needs your support, I say go for it man!

Yes oit is a very good oppurtunity for him and there is very good scope for it too. There is a management course for the catering technology and Hotel manaagement industry. My husband did that course longback that is about 40 years ago. Since he couldn't adjust with the irregular timings he left it then. Infact it is not like that now. There are lots and lots of five star and four star hotels coming up. He'll have a good scope in that line if he decides to go for that. In India there are lots of courses and colleges for that. I don't know to which part of the world you belong to. If you want to know anymore I can help you. All the best

Instead of just becoming a cook, your friend could try out his hand in hospitality industry or in Hotel Management as a whole. Infact it is a very good career. It is a well paid career also. Your friend could also become a chef in ships also. Ask him to carry his passion as a career. All the Best to him.
