Why don't people answer their cell phones?

I don't get it! I must know a bunch of jerks because none of them answer their cell phones. Maybe they don't want to talk to me? I'm definitely getting a complex now. I'm waiting for a ride to see my ex and his sister is supposed to be taking me to the hospital. She told me to call her when I got up this morning and I've called a dozen times. His surgery was at 11:00 and here it is almost 11:30 and she hasn't called me back. I called my future d/i/l and she's not answering her cell phone so I left her a message. If there was a bus that would get me there I would take it but there isn't. A cab would cost me close to $50 which I don't have.
Do you know people who don't answer their cell phones even when you know their not busy? I know for a fact that these two are doing nothing so what's up with that. Could it be that they just don't want to talk to me?

Or could it just be your imagination? Maybe they're in the bath, or watching television, listening to music, and unable to hear their phone ringing. Why don't you send them a text message, and see if they reply at some point? I'm sure it's not that they don't want to talk to you, my friend.
Brightest Blessings.

I answer my phone when I'm watching tv so I don't know why my kids can't! We never talk for a long time so I'm sure a couple of minutes won't hurt them. I have tried texting them and for some reason they never get it

No... it's strange, but in the case of your sister, in the hospital, I don't know about in your country, but in ours, we're not allowed to have our phones on inside the hospital because they interfere with the hospital's paging system. However, she could have taken it outside and checked if you'd called.

That drives me nuts sometimes, too. It's especially weird when they tell you to call them or when it's something important going on and you know that they are expecting a call, and they still don't answer. That has happened to me before and it's really frustrating. I wonder if your family had to turn off cell phones in the hospital or something? It still doesn't make sense that they wouldn't step out and call you or something though. I hope you hear from someone soon!

I finally ended up hearing from my future d/i/l and she did pick me up and take me to the hospital. She said she was shopping and her phone was turned off. I can understand that.

It bugs me sometimes when I call people on cell phones and they don't answer. I appreciate that sometimes perhaps they can't hear the phone ringing, or they are maybe unable to take a call at the time, but phones usually show missed calls so they could get back to me at any time. These days I find that sending a text is sometimes the only way to get a response. I'm sure they do want to talk to you hun, just that they can't hear the phone.

My son will call me days after I've called him because he saw a message from me....like I said...DAYS LATER...so that tells me he doesn't check his messages very often.

may be they are engaged in something or they dislike to talk to you at some very situation.

It is called "Caller ID" and maybe it's not that they don't want to talk to you per say, maybe they are busy at the moment and simply can't talk to you. Is it that bad to the point where you're taking it personal? If so, then don't call them. No use in stressing over something like that.

I somtimes do not answer my phone when i wasnt my seclusion. After a day's tiring work and anger a day filled with BS and emotions, I like to have calm time with nature and for that purpose, I leave my cell phone in the bedroom and go out onto the roof and look at the stars.
And unfortunately people find that span of time to call me and when I dont get their calls they freak out on me. i have a;ready informed my friends that sometime of the day they will not be able to get in contact with me through phone, but still they do not listen and freak out on me.
Other times that people don't answer their phone is when they do not want to talk, do not want to get hooked up onto someone talking on the phone, when they are busy to talk.

the people i know who don't answer their cellphones only have 2 reasons, either they are in a very busy work schedule that they cannot even lift a handset or they pretend to be in that very busy schedule to ignore calls coming from people they have nothing to do with.
in your case i guess you have an idea on what's going on and so you know the reason why they ignore your calls. this i tell you from my own experience, i use to ignore calls too when i don't want to talk to the caller but i do press the cancel key to stop my phone from ringing otherwise i just answer it no matter how i despise the voice of the caller. lol

Well, I think that would be majorly because they don`t wanna talk to the one who calls. And that is the most commosn reason in my point of view. I`m not saying that its the only reason indeed, but there are many other POSSIBLE reasons why they don`t answer it, they might be sleep, drive a vehicle, away from the phone or in place where they aren`t allowed to use the phone.

I haven't seen anyone mention that fact that not everyone gets the best of connections everywhere either. I've gotten quite a few phone calls during times when I've had no connection and didn't know they were calling.
In hospitals, you are suppose to turn your cell phones off before entering. If you are awaiting a phone call, you would have to walk outside, turn your phone back on and then check messages.
Don't take it personal. Sometimes I see someone calling me, but if I'm on my way into a store or something, I won't answer it. I tend to call them back later although if I was waiting for a phone call from someone then I would be looking for it instead.

I think the reasons why people don't answer their phones: they are busy that time, having a meeting, in a class or taking a shower. Also, person doesn't feel like talking as he/she is having a personal problem. Another reason is that, you might have some problems and the person is not yet ready to talk to you.
In your case, I think there must be something that is going on that they don't want you to know yet or probably, not holding their hand phone. Not easy to get but whatever it is, for sure, there is always a reason.
Keep posting,
Mickey

Sometimes,I don't answer the phone because I am quite busy with work, maybe have a meeting, meet some VIP,etc. And sometimes,I just didn't hear my phones, but I will call it back later.
I think answering others' call is a must in my life. You know, it's polite to answer others no matter you want or not!

I guess I'm the same way.. But I don't have my phone with me when I'm at home, so when people call my cell I don't answer. They know my house number, call that. But my phone's always on vibrate though so another reason I don't answer is that. I don't hear it/feel it. So that could be why she didn't answer you. They don't hear the phone ring/go off.

I don't have a cell phone so I asked my daughter who does. She often does not pick up her phone and I know it can be frustrating. She does not pick up when she is driving. Sometimes it isn't charged up or she has left it in another room and doesn't hear it. sometimes she puts it on vibrate and then if it isn't on her, she won't know when someone calls.

many reasons and circumstances...
Like last night, someone who called me at my mobile and i just noticed it when i woke up this morning. I didn't knw whose the number or whose calling...The number didn't register on my cell. And i couldn't call them back coz im using a prepaid phone and i don't have enough load. It's an international number...And i don't have an idea whose number it was.
In your case maybe they just forgot? busy? doing important things or emergencies..As like you said someone will having a surgery..Well, i think in having a surgery is not that fast. Just wait, maybe they will call you soon..be patient. But, i really understand what you feel.

The men in my family are the culprits when it comes to this. All except my dad. My husband, both of his brothers and my brother are all guilty of not answering their phones. If you text them, they will text you right back. But they won't answer the phone half the time.
The thing is, they don't keep it a secret that they do this and they do it to everyone! It is annoying sometimes.
My husband knows better than to not answer when I call now unless he is in a meeting or something. I only text him during work hours anyway; never call. I don't want his phone to start ringing when he is in with a patient or talk to the Colonel or something.

A couple of things come to mind here. One, you are depending on others and that is not good. Maybe his sister forgot, or he called and wanted her there earlier and she didn't want to bother you. Second, having spent a lot of time in hospitals this past year visiting, I know that you need to keep your phone off. So, give them the benefit of the doubt. Or, they just didn't want to talk with you :) Don't get a complex, make other plans and move on.

My friends would often accuse of being a bigtime snub, especially in answering phones. I guess I am one of those who for one reason or another, do not really catch up to phonecalls pretty well.
I personally have chosen to put my phone on silent mode for the longest time. It's how I want my phone set - silent, all the time. That's the reason why I frequently miss many calls have am loaded with tons of messages hitting me with sour words for not answering my phone.
But that's not true, I am not a snub. It's just that I do not bring my phone always, and if I do, it gonna be in silent mode. And as I have told anyone, it's not because I don't want to talk to certain people, it's more of my bad phone habits.
As for your experience, I am not sure if by this time, you have already talked to your friend about the incident. It helps to clarify. There might be something that came up, or their phone might have been set on silent mode. There are myriads of possible reasons. So I guess, instead of being hard on yourself, or accusing them of not liking you, why not suspend you judgement and ask them the real deal. Believe me, tempering our tempers make us delay the coming of some unncessary wringkles. lol
