Are Lucid dreams possible and if so, do they have meaning?

For those that don't know, lucid dreams are ones where you have control over what is happening. You know that you are dreaming yet everything feels real and you can do as you please. I've been having semi-lucid dreams it seems lately..where I gain and lose control repeatedly. I can't seem however to be able to focus on changing them to scenario's I would prefer..but rather I get control of acting out my part in what is already happening. Does anybody else get these or have any insight on them?
