Will the world go short of food?
The head of the UN World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the rise in basic food costs could continue until 2010. What impact will this have?
Head of the WFP, Josette Sheeran, has warned that global food reserves are at their lowest level in 30 years. She said that the WFP may have to ration foods due to funding shortages.
Ms Sheeran linked rising food costs to energy and grain prices, the effects of climate change and demand for biofuels.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh and El Salvador are already seeing the impact of rising food prices, according to the WFP.
What impact will rising food prices have on the world? How can we address this problem? Will you be affected by rises in food costs? DO SHARE your views and experiences.

Hello, jidesh! The population of the world is increasing every year but the world food production is diminishing to a great extent because of so many factors.one important factor is that more and more agricultural lands are being put to nonagricultural use.some lands including forests are being covered by irrigation projects and some for industrial establishments and others for habitations.anyway the production is effected.for this reason the cost of food grains as well as other food products have gone up many fold and for this the poor people are worst effected.to save the people from starvation the food grains production has to be doubled in the next twenty years at any cost.it should be the prime duty of the governments of all countries to make master plans for increasing production of food grains and curtail population growth substantially.thank you.

yes definitely, it is a big problem. but every problem have its solution on it. i am from India and today the cost of cooking oil is lower by 16 Rs per ltr. you cant say cost is really rising, per capita income is also rising. if some country have this problem now a days it is due to their system. India is also affected by this problem, is growing now a days.
