I am having my older brother and his wife out this coming weekend from Detroit Michigan area. They will be here just this weekend then head back to Michigan on Sunday morning. They visit about once or twice a year to see us and especially to see dad. There are things he brings from Michigan just for dad and for myself that we can not get here in Minnesota. A couple of these thiongs are vernors Ginger Ale Pop, best Made Potota Chips, and Fargo brand Rock & Rye pop. Do you get out of State visitors that bring you itmes you can't normally get in your State etc? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I used to love it when I was a kid and my uncle who lived in Tom's River N.J. would come and he'd always bring salt water taffy. That was something we couldn't get any other time except for our local fair once a year and even that wasn't as good as the stuff that came right from the boardwalk. Annie

My brother used to bring me fresh polish sausage from Chicago, and also some of the best beef tenderloin, hot tamales, and vienna hot dogs. Since he moved to Arizona a few years ago, I have to go stock up on that stuff myself. Last October, he and his wife drove out to Chicago to attend a wedding, and I drove out to spend a few days with them, since it's only a 6 1/2 hour drive for me, from Ohio. I brought my big cooler, and he had two big giant ones. We drove around the city collecting our favorite things, and we ate at our favorite restaurants while we were there. He got extras of everything for his daughter in Colorado, and his son who lives near them. He was planning on stopping for a few days at his daughter's house. He had his stuff frozen, and shrink wrapped, and had dry ice so it would last for the long ride home. It's funny, when he moved to Arizona, he said he wouldn't miss Chicago at all, but he's planning on coming back in June to restock.

Chicago and Detropit have some great butcher shops with the best sausages. I lived in both Det and Chi so I know about those meats. There's a Coney Island Shop somewhere along Michigan Ave inb Chicago that I used to go to that had the best ever coney dogs. I miss them a lot. Now thats smart taking the coolers for the trip. It's amazing how we become accustomed to things in a ceratin area then have to have them when we go back or someone comes to see us from there and we ask for them to pick some up. I'll have to look for that Coney Island shop the next time I go to Chi. Too bad I can't bring back some Home Run Inn Pizza and some good Chinese food. Almost every neighborhood in Chi. has a good Chinese take out that's not anything like the buffet stuff they have here.

A friend of ours goes back to Michigan for the Holidays and we have her bring us back Saunders Hot fudge. Now and then we can find it down here but it's rare and we love that. We manage to get Vernors and Faygo down here in Florida but not the rock and rye, which I do enjoy. We do have friends that visit my parents from Michigan every few years and we ask them to bring us some Michigan apples. The ones down here just don't taste the same. Ok I now have the Faygo song stuck in my head

Hi GRANDPA BOB! We do have a lot of relatives and friends who visit us all year round and they always bring us also things that are not available in our local area. I am really excited however with relatives visiting from other countries. LOL! Guess, why? haha..The chocolates taste better when it comes from the USA, Europe and especially the ones from Japan. haha.. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day! :)

It is not big here, but we can get Vernors. My hubby likes a Portuguese sausage: Chourico, and we often receive shipments of Carrot Relish from Hart's Turkey Farm in New Hampshire, with Chourico also. His sister's love him.

No. The last overnight guest we had was my little nephew who stayed with us a couple of weeks. He didn't bring anything with him but an attitude, lol. Just kidding.

I have had relatives visit that were drunk and obnoxious in the past. Thoose relatives now know they are still welcomed but not to drink in my house anymopre as I don't appreciate it especially as I am sober for just over 17 years and don't need to deal with drunks anymore. Cat Tails - My brother brought them to my home. They really do look nice.
When my brothers were in the military, they would bring all kinds of interesting t-shirts for our daughters, but never brought any food. The last time my brother visited he brought me some Cat Tails; however, they are available here.

I'm very sorry that I am so late on responding to this discussion. I am trying to get caught up on them right now. We hardly ever have company at my house. I do have family that lives fairly close but the ones that live out of town, never come here anymore. I have one family member that lives in Florida and I think it would be great if they could come and visit and bring some peaches and oranges.

Actually, I get care packages sent to me from my mom and dad, they live in Texas I'm in PA. They usually send me a package (well about 6 dozen) tamales, after living in Texas most of my life, canned tamales just don't count lol Around Thanksgiving they usually have a fruit cake shipped to me, I know what everyone thinks, fruit cake yuck, oh but not the ones from Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana, Texas. When my oldest daughter goes down for a visit, she lives in VA, she usually brings me back some real Dr Pepper, made with Pure Cane sugar, from the orginal bottling company in Texas. She and I also miss Big Red soda.

Yumm! I like tamales a lot as well. Minnesota has no good places for fresh tamales though. I saw a show on TV about Collin Bakery and their fruit cakes and how many they ship all over the world. Unreal. I miss Coke made with the syrup not the carbonated version in taps. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Aunt Bertie's Sweet Tea - I hear it's really good.
My husband's sister asks hubby to bring this special tea that's made here in North Carolina and it makes quite a bit because it's concentrated. She lives in Virginia which is about an hour and a half from our house to hers so when he goes up to see her and their mother, he brings up some tea. http://www.carolinatreat.com/teas.asp
