Children are dying at alarming rates. What is going on with people today?

In the last two days I've read about a 3 year old child in Detroit accidentally shooting herself in the head after finding her parents' gun, a father of 3 on the run after allegedly murdering his three children in British Columbia, a fetus being discovered at a water treatment plant in Calgary, a 5 month old found with no vital signs in a bathtub while being looked after by a baby sitter, and a 2 year old girl in Pennsylvania beaten to death with a video game controller by her mother's boyfriend. What the hell is going on?
It breaks my heart that parents are intentionally hurting their children, or causing pain and death through neglect. So many of these disasters could be averted by parents and caretakers using common sense. I know it's cliche to say the world is going crazy, but sometimes I wonder.
I have a 6 year old boy, and I'm protective to the point of paranoia. He doesn't go anywhere without me knowing where he is. He's well aware of the dangers of guns, cars, fire, strangers, etc. He doesn't ride his bike without a helmet. Why are parents neglecting their kids? Why are caretakers neglecting their charges? Why are people murdering children? I simply don't understand it.

I believe that it depend on their parents education. They are not protective with their children because they were at their time neglected by their parents. Pure and simple they have no
mental capacity to prevent accidents.
It is good that you are so protective with your kid, so am i with my son who is 14 months old. But we have to learn them to protect themselves because we will not be all of their life between them.
I love my baby very much and i couldn't support to see him hurt.

Youn are right mm. Children are the blessings of God and they are very innocent, tender and most of all dependant on us to remind us of our existence. There is no worry if they are not born but should not die in those early years for these kind of mere reasons. Everybody should think that if they face the same kind of circumtances, then what is their position at that juncture which may make them avoid these kind of deaths of children.
