Reconnecting with an Old Friend

The other day I got a mysterious message on Myspace which turned out to be from an old friend of mine that I haven't seen or talked to in years! I was really excited because we used to be very good friends. My question is this: is it a good idea to try and get together with him to hang out or is it better to just let things be? The reason I ask is because I've tried to reconnect with other old friends and things haven't gone well. It seems to ruin my perception of that person and the friendship we once had. Does anyone have any advice?

I've recently come across this same situation in facebook - ran into several of my old high school friends. I think if you can go into meeting this person knowing they are probably not the same person they were years ago - and appreciate the qualities they have today - then you'll have fun. If you're expecting to pick up where you left off, you'll probably be disappointed. All of us change through life and sometimes the reason we leave friendships behind is because we've grown or moved on. This is a natural and normal part of life. Treat it as though you're meeting a new person - no preconceptions - except of course lots of fun with "remember whens" and enjoy it for what its worth. Worst case - you find out you no longer have anything in common - best case, you find a "new" old friend.

Thank you! I really like your perspective on things and agree that if I do decide to meet up with him I have to remember to not expect him to be the same person becuase neither am I! Thanks again!

look all the persons are not same. so it may not be all the disaster to reconnct with an old friend. but i guess it would be better to keep limit. many things changes in time.

hey,i think it's good for your to call your friends hang out. yesterday i came to a place near one of my friends' home. i just had a try to connect him,asked him come out and get together if he has time. to my superise,he came.we chatted for a long time.it make me feel happy. the purpose i said those is that it may be a unpected things for you.big superise,haha!
