Why Are Some Adult Cats....

I think when cats get older they just lose interest in playing. I dont think its anything you are doing wrong. My cat is very playful and she is 5 years old. I think you just need to give them love and affection and let things take their course. Best of luck.

My Fiance's cat is an adult cat and I do not think i've actually gotten her to be playful but maybe once. I am not sure why adult cats seem to mellow out, but they do. As far as being playful I would only imagine the only way to accomplish such is just to buy new cat toys and keep trying to be playful with her. I wouldn't suggest getting a kitten unless you feel that it would do no harm. I know that my fiance's adult cat was a bit of a priss and did not like her cat companions, and hardly liked me when I first came to live here. She's mellowed out towards me though.

It might just be the personality of the cat or the breed. Whenever I had Oriental breeds, they were extremely active and always running around and playing. But, some breeds, like Ragdolls and Persians are very mellow and laid back. It's probably just the way they are and I don't think you are doing anything wrong.

most cats do that i mean i have had cats almost all of my life and they have done the exact same thing...i mean they are playful whenever they are kittens but hardly ever do they play whenever they get older all they want to do is just lay there and sleep whenever they get older and i dont know what to do either but thats just what cats do so i wouldnt worry too much if i were you...its just a normal thing that they do.. jhl930
