How did you come up with your screenname?

In a recent discussion someone asked how I pronounce my screen name. Telling her that and explaining how I got it provoked this discussion. Everyone has a screen name here that represents some part of them. Its part of their identity.
I got mine from when I sold insurance. I have always known that people thought I was pretty at times. I say it that way because after a big stigma about myself all through school, I really didn't think of myself as pretty. In that office, I met some very positive people that got me to look at my life in a different light. The first thing they did for me was to change my self image about the way I looked.
When we would have meetings, I did my best and dressed up as nice as I could. But I never felt pretty internally. The first thing the office mates did was to nickname me Dark And Lovely. At first it felt awkward, them calling me that, but they persisted, and finally I came to accept that I was beautiful, both inside and out.
When I brought the screen name online. I had to be different, so I just shortened it to just the constanants, kinda the way I text. Just in case I ran into someone that had the same idea, I put my birth date at the end.
So MyLot, how did you come up with your screen name?

I had no problem with your screen name..It means "dark and lovely"This is an easy discussion and i don't have to think to answer...Lol....My first husband of whom i was married to for years who passed away called me "slick" a pet name, and probably called me that becuse i was good a figuring him out..Haha....I also am a hairdresser and at one time was going to open my own shop which i was going to call "slickcuts"...So you are right it does mean something to me,and that is how my screen name was invented....

You are going to open your own shop? That is wonderful. What part of the world are you going to open it? And will it be a beauty shop, a barber, or both?

When i first got on line back in 2000 I found out I had to come up with an online name. Never realized till then that I might need one but they do recommend it for your emails so you aren't giving out your real name to everyone and then I was going to join some yahoo groups and really didn't want to use a name that gave everyone my real name so I had to create a new one. I wanted something that expressed part of who I am. I've very Irish so I chose the name Emeraldisle. I also happen to like emeralds . Now sometimes in places that name is taken so when it is I just add some numbers. Usually they are just randomly picked ones or I might use my birthday. It all depends on what is available. Thankfully when I joined here I didn't have to add anything.

Well when I first started in groups I was using emeraldisle_witch but then after I had a cyber stalker I had to change my yahoo name, my email and so on. I then just shortened it to Emeraldisle and I've been using it since. I do know what you mean with the numbers. Some don't like them and others demand them. You never know with them.

When I created this screen name, I kinda felt that I would need some distinguishing numbers behind it, so that it would be original. I have always had my birthdate behind my name, so you know its me.
The ironic thing is, after signing up to a few places, I found a couple that didn't like the numbers in the screen name. Fortunately, my name wasn't taken without the numbers!

I'm a beekeeper and Bears will often smash up the beehives to get the Honey. When a Mother bear has a cub at her side she will pick up the honey-box by hugging it and carry it away to keep her cub from getting stung by the angry bees. Barehugs depicts the bear (and the beekeeper) stealing honey from the bees.

Beekeeper, yikes! I could never do that. I am allergic to bee stings, and even with the suit I would be scared. Are you a beekeeper that uses a suit or no? I've heard that some beekeepers are so in tune with their bees that they have no fear of being stung, so they don't wear them.

Sometimes its hard to come up with a good screen name. But yours is good too. When you frequent forums like this, your screen name and your typing are like your first impressions. Sometimes the screen name describes something about you, and sometimes its done through what you write. In either case, your screen name becomes your face online. Its what it represents that counts.

When i tried searching for my name in there it was already registered with some other user.I'm the kind of a person who finds it hard to think of abstract user names in a jiffy so i thought long and hard and came up with this.it includes 'witty' as people say that i am at most of the times and then it includes my name.I have to have a user name which has a part of me in it and defines me too.like my name my screen name is important to me too.so this is my user name story!

You were going to use your real name? I hope just your first. There are only rare instances that I give my name out in a forum situation such as this. There is too much going on in the world to do that.
I do like what you did come up with however. It describes a little of who you are. Its important to give a little information out with the first introduction. That is what a screen name does.

well whenever I came across you in Mylot, I could always understand you as dark & lovely. Just pronouncing the consonants as they are brings on the same effect and in this age of SMS, it was not difficult to understand. Glad to know that you are at peace with yourself now, very necessary for us to be successful in whatever we do. Well I am Sudipta and since thru the net, I am calling out to you (and everybody else) so my screenname is Sudiptacallingu.

My screenname came about from the love of my dog.
Her name is Jezzabell, when I started to live with
my son,his wife started to call her Jezzmay. She
could not remember her name,Jezzmay came easier.
So,when I came online here I started using this
screenname, and a picture of my dog.

Is your dog still around? How old is she?

Most people know by now of my devotion to Depeche Mode... that was the starting point. Then the idea crept in of luxury-on-luxury... exquisitely lush. Add in the avatar, and I'm thinking 'dessert'... it all fit together quite nicely, and gave me my perfect identity here!!

This is where I show my youth and naivety. I have heard of Depeche Mode, but I don't know what type of music they played. I like your idea though. I have noticed your screen name from the first time you responded to one of my discussions, mostly due to my sweet tooth lol. High visibility and branding are very important here. Good job Ala!

Not to worry... DM are still around after 25 years... they're working on another album right now, and I'm living for the concert tour! The rumors say right after Christmas, and I'll go with their 2 other biggest fans... my daughter and granddaughter. We went together in '05, and it was amazing!
Here's a sample...

This concert in Germany really shows that we aren't the only ones... they're in demand all over the world!

Kulaskulasito is the name of the boy in the short novel "The Adventures of Kulaskulasito" given to me by my mom to read when I was still 7 or 8. That's the first book, aside from many other children short stories, I was able to read from cover to cover because it had illustrations. It's a story about a boy whose adventure brought him to a haunted house, to the sea, and finally to a cave where a Giant (damn I forgot his name) is locked. We'll that is really a nice story and having Kulaskulasito as my screenname actually makes me express myself because I am an adventurous individual myself.

Yeah I remember that game. I was pretty fair with him on Game Cube's version of Soul Caliber II. My favorite character was Link from the Legend of Zelda. I was already a beast with him in his own game, so it was easy to adapt to his fighting style.

It's about this Indian girl in America who kinda finds it hard fitting into any culture so she ends up getting really into photography, probably to hide away from other people. Anyway it's a cute story, I really liked it a few years ago, but I guess I feel like I've grown out of it a bit lol.

I love your screen name, I think it is really good. I could read it as I do a lot of texting so I can probably read that kind of talk better than proper speaking!! Well my screen name story is a bit boring compared to yours really, I wanted to use my own name originally as that is what I always used if I signed up anywhere, but when I put it in it kept coming up as already being used. I tried it a few different ways and had no luck so I sat and thought for ages about what else I could use that would mean something to me. I then thought of my starsign as I relate to my starsign a lot, so I tried that and again it kept telling me that the name had been used so I sat and thought a bit more and then thought about the roses that I loved in my Grandmas garden and also a relative that I love is called Rose too and so I tried that and hurray I finally found one that I could have!! So there you go thats me!!

just put on a name that you really have or what you would have like to have.trust me a name means nothng. what you are you will always be no matter what you call yourself. you are lovely if you be yourself and never change for anybody. all the best

I don't let it bother me at all Monish. I posted that story as a celebration of overcoming challenges. That was just one of them. It wasn't the office mates calling me by that name, it was me becoming comfortable with thinking of myself in that light. It was a hard mountain to climb for me, but I have successfully passed that journey.
So, how did you come to realize your screen name?
