How can you handle a friend's negativity?

I've got a friend who's been so negative from the moment i met her. She complains a lot, repeats the same old story 'bout her problem, whines a lot, etc. etc. etc. :D Since am a very very good friend [yes, i am! :D] i became, let's say... her 'shock absorber'. I'd listen to her woes and give her the same advice [even though i know she's not going to follow it]. I think my biggest contribution.. is to make her smile [and laugh!] :)

If you are a true friend, you can accept her just as she is. Thats what friends are for.

explain your feelings to your friend. i also understand how you feel and sometimes it can be emotionally draining. my suggestion is to think of yourself first. if you are adversely affected by her behavior, try to avoid her perhaps

I think I have also been through such an experience a couple of times. Such friends are called Toxic elements and are draining for you. My suggestion is to weed her out of your life before she saps all the energy out of you.
