Protein Shakes...

... I thought these made you put on weight, but my housemate has just started drinking them, replacing meals with them, in an effort to lose weight. Can anyone clarify this for me???

when i used to work in a video store in perth, many customers were body builders and just before a competition they would eat only protein to tone up more i guess but it was a scary look when you are used to seeing them all beefed up lol...

Well, thats what I said, shes also barely eating. I looked it up on the net, and it can cause kidney failure, blood cell damage and even brain damage if she mainatins it for too long, but she is as stubborn as a mule. Any suggestions on what I should say to her?
