My Fiance and I will be purchasing a laptop from my best friend and her fiance in a little while, and I was wondering... Do the newer laptops already come with a ethernet card? The type of laptop I will be getting is IBM and from my understanding it is a newer laptop.
I would ask my friend but she would not know and I am not certain that she would be able to translate for her fiance so that she could ask him.
Any and all feedback will be greatly appreciated.

The new laptops have built in and integrated Ethernet cards. With addition to that the new laptops of all the vendors now also give Wi-Fi(Wireless Network Connectivity) which is very good for users. Think you have laptop and want to travel, go to new country's hotel, check in, go to your room and ask for Wi-Fi, if the hotel has wireless network then automatically your laptop searchs for wireless network and connects to it. Use Internet and stay connected to the whole world and your family.

I greatly appreciate the information, but I have been set up for a while now, and I suppose I should have put a best response so as to let people know that I have been set up.

Yep, mine sure does! I got the laptop a week ago, and it does. Got it all hooked up to the internet and everything. I wasn't sure if the older models had one or not!

This was helpful. I do not know the year of the laptop and I doubt the friend I am getting it from will either. I will just have to wait and see.

I would say if it is less than 5 years old, it should have one. If it doesn't a good solution would be to get a wireless router, which is really nice for laptops :), and you can purchase a usb wireless adapter to use with it to connect to the internet.

I knew about that option, I just opted out of using that option. Would much rather just go to the cheaper route with the cord, no need for a router when you can just get a long ethernet cord.
