I have to fight her to get her inside!

My parents dog, Katiebug, who has been a part of our family for the past 6 years, is getting to be quite annoying. She has always been a barky, whiney, just all around noisy dog. Whenever she goes outside, she's usually barking two seconds later to come back inside. Lately, it's the complete opposite, she's fighting to get past the underground fence to get to our cousin's dog. She is hurting herself doing this, but we can't do anything about it. If she gets to the other side, she will only tear up our cousin's little mutt, that is merely a quarter of Katie's size. I don't know what to do with her, I can't stand seeing her hurt herself, but she's the one stupid enough to do it, right? Does your dog give you a hard time when your trying to get him/her inside? What do you usually do?

Do you think she might be in heat? I know that there are some dogs that just go absolutely bonkers when it comes time to reproduce. More so with the male dogs, but I'm sure females can be a handful too. I have a female golden retriever, but she's not too mischievous. She does, however, bark...A LOT. She's noisy by nature. But, I have found that the best way to stop her from doing that is to take a water pistol (the small ones that you can find at some 99 cents store) and squirt her with a few shots of water every time she barks obnoxiously. This might not work with all dogs; some might respond better to sound rather than something physical like water. But this works best for her due to the fact that she wants constant attention from you 24/7; she doesn't, however, want attention from a stream of water.

No, she was spayed when we first got her, as a pup. It was a requirement in order to adopt her, since we got her from the local animal shelter. We've tried squirting her with water to stop her from barking, but it doesn't work, she just opens her mouth and wants you to continue to do it. In fact, during the winter, she likes it when you throw snow balls over the side of the deck down to her, so she can catch them, lol. I think she just might be getting old and silly, I just don't like to see her hurt herself. She's gotten to the point where she's foaming from the mouth from being zapped. We can't really take down the fence, because then she will get loose and go after the other animals in the neighborhood.

ah, I know what you mean, my neighbor adopted all four of her dogs from the local shelter and all four of them are spayed as well. But the water trick can only go so far as you have found out haha I'm surprised our dogs haven't figured out that they can open their mouths and have a convenient drink. Unfortunately I'm not too certain of any other way you can keep your dog "in line" without a little restriction on their part. I mean you've said you've shocked her, which I'm assuming is with the shock collar; again, sometimes it works, with other dogs, not so much. If you haven't tried already you could try to get them a type of leash that's attached to a corkscrew-like device which allows your dog enough mobility (depending on the length of cable you use) but at the same time keeping them away from areas you might want to keep them away from (ie. the fence area where they're trying to get through). I've heard of a way where you can get your dogs attention and help them stop their obnoxious barking with a type of noise that's equally obnoxious to them: empty soup can with coins. What you do is get a can of soup--maybe a can of broth would be best--and empty the can through slots big enough to fit coins through. When you've rinsed the inside and allowed it to dry put some coins in there and every time your dog barks give the can a nice shake. Again, I'm not 100% it will work for your dog, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks a lot, I will definitly have to try this. It may not work, because she is quite obnoxious, but yes, it is worth a try!

Pour vinager around the fenceline. Dogs hate the smell, it's almost as if you are marking your territory and she "should" stay away from it. If that doesnt work, maybe look at putting plywood over that certan part of the fence or even look at a privacy fence. Dogs are different outside than inside. Once they get outside, they feel that they control themselfs and anything you try to do to disipline her about being outside will most likely fail.

No dog is gonna give me a hard tome, I am the boss. You should read the dog whisperer by Ceaser Milan or watch The Dog Whisperer on the discovery channel. If you show the dog that you are the boss you will never have any problems. If you show the dog that you are his pack leader you can even make him sit without training or saying a word. Its really cool. I hope that you check it out it will change your life and your dogs because your dog will be much happier if you are in control, its less stress on him.
