Prostate cancer has been loosely linked to diet and processed foods/hormone injected beefs, but I don't know how reliable this "link" is. Perhaps the rise in cases in due to the population aging and living longer than previous generations. The good news is, prostate cancer, if caught early, can be effectively treated. I've known 2 men (in their 50's) who have survived prostate cancer and are now living happy, healthy lives. Early detection is of most importance.

eugened307 did a great job talking about prostate cancer so the only thing I'll add is this: Don't worry too much about the "steep rise" in prostate cancer. The major reason we're seeing more cases is that diagnostic tests are so much more sophisticated than they used to be. We're able to detect abnormalities associated with prostate cancer far earlier than we used to.
