as a person who does not drive I get seriously fed up of the number of people on a day to day basis who just assume that everyone drives.. we are constantly being encouraged to give up our cars and be more ecologicaly sound but as soon as you mention that you dont have a licence and dont drive you are often looked at with surprize or even looked down on.. I must admit that there have been times when a car would have been nice but I have also seen times with friends when they have been a burden causing lack of excersize and a pace of living that has caused stress..not to mention the cost and the crazy status that seems to go with owning these lumps of metal.I can appreciate the beauty and design and engineering but do not understand why we all have to live life at an ever increasing pace with the car clogging up the roads the air and now the asumption that everyone automatically has one... how do others feel about this? ......12345m

You make a good point. There are plenty of people who don't drive and I see nothing wrong with that at all.
Many people in heavily populated cities do not drive or own their own cars....such as New York City. I think we should all appreciate their contribution to the war on global warming and pollution. I drive, but as I get older I do not drive in weather or in places where I don't feel comfortable or safe. I guess that's my contribution...keeping the roads safer for everyone else by staying off of them myself. lol
Have a great evening.

I am 23 years old and I have never had my drivers licsence. I have never wanted to learn to drive, for me it is way to scary, and I am very environmentally concious. People in other vehicles are just crazy. People always gasp when I tell them I don't drive."What! How on earth do you get around?!" Is it so hard to believe that you can get somewhere with the use of your own 2 feet. My husband likes that I don't drive, it saves him alot of money and helps me keep my figure.

My partner doesn't drive and feels very much as you do. It's true that it is always assumed that we all have cars and are often surprised when he says he doesn't drive. I didn't learn to drive until I was 50 years old and I only learnt to drive and bought a small car because I have a lot of trouble getting about these days.

I seldom drive .. I'm happy with my bicycle. Its eco-friendly and gives me proper exercise. It happens that people who do not have cars are always looked down upon, but they fail to understand that Cars need a lot of maintenance, instead of using public transport, which are more safe and feasible.

i have a license. an international license to be exact since i just came here. and in the philippines, i was used to riding buses, jeepneys, and trains. and i never dreamt of having a car because you have to take care of it, you know, maintenance and that. and my mom told me that i won't leave philippines without a license. and it was kind of irritating. and one time, my mom and i went to the mall, the teenagers were looking at me for my mom's driving the car. and in the back of my head, so what if my mom's driving? I don't plan on dying today. in general, i don't want to drive. it's just parental and peer pressure and they point out that it's a necessity. it's not. it's a contribution to destroy the earth.=)
