School Library Books

I just realised when I returned our library books to the public library on Monday, that I also turned in my son's school library book there. I just spent this afternoon looking for it and realised what I had done. I called them to see if it was there but they had no trace of it and said that when they do receive school library books, they batch them and return them to the schools.
I hope they get it back or else I'll have to pay for it. I'll send in a note tommorrow to let them know. Because of this, my son won't be able to take a book out tommorrow, which he isn't happy about
because they get to choose two books to celebrate reading week.
Have you accidently returned a book to the wrong library? or returned your children's school books to a public one?

haha he crumbled up his face and gave me a mean look and said he couldn't get any out tommorrow. But that's ok, I got a tip from another mylottian who suggested Maddy ask the Librarian to make a note of the two books he likes tommorrow and I'll get them from the public library on Saturday.
I just hope I don't have to pay for it LOL The book was on komodo dragons LOL

No, I haven't done this personally, but don't they stamp and check the cards when you take them back? It's their fault, just as much as yours I would imagine. You could make it up to your son in the interim, by telling him to choose a second book, or two books at school and noting down the titles. Then you could perhaps draw them from your local library, so that he can still read them.
Meantime, I would tell the school what happened, and perhaps they will be able to sort it out with your library, if you can't get any satisfaction. I really think some of the onus is on them!
I hope you get it all sorted, my friend. Brightest Blessings.

Well apparently the public library don't track books that they get for school libraries. They just batch them and send them back to the schools. I thought they would at least have taken a note of the title and name of school for records incase the books they returned don't make it back to the school.
Thanks for the idea though Darkwing, I'll have maddy take note of the two books he likes and see if we can get them on Saturday at the public library. Thanks for that tip :) and for responding!

I knew I might end up doing the same thing. And besides, I take books for myself from the same library.
So, what I do is keep the books in different places. so, the books my son borrows from the public library is usually kept with my set of library books (we have a whole lot of our own too) and he picks it up when he wants to read it and keeps it back with my set of books. The school library book is usually kept at his study table with the rest of his stuff. So, he never forgets to take it to school either.

bad bad bad mom! im kidding!
that really sucks to have a mistake like that, i havent done that in my life yet but i have thrown stuff that is valuable just because i place them to a garbage bag inside the car.
so i guess we are all guilty about unfortunate mistake like that.
anyway, i hope the school will find it sooner so your son will get it by the time he gets to the school so he wont feel bad not having his book with him.
im sure they will understand why.
there is always a room to grow and learn ei?
good luck!

My son was not happy. He loves books and looks forward to library day at school. Serves me right for not separating the book he got at school from those we got from the public library. They look all the same to me LOL
He said he was looking forward to getting more dinosaur and komodo dragon books out tommorrow. Fingers crossed they have it so I don't have to pay for it :) thanks jairgirl!

I have never done that, because all libraries I have been to check that the books are there's.
I have forgotten to return school books though.

That's what happens when I'm in a rush to get out the door and just pick up the books without checking them :) thanks for your response!

I have never done that myself, maddysmommy. But I can sure see how it could easily happen. Don't be too hard on yourself. Do something special for him tomorrow to make it up to him. Kids like to see parents mess up now and them. Let him enjoy it and pick on you a little bit.
