I have read an article about cold that cold is a viral disease. But in my case every time doctor pescribe a antibiotic whenever i or my family member suffered from cold. That article clearly states that antibiotics are given in case bacterial infection and prolonged use of antibiotics has bad effects on body. Then why doctors pescribe antibiotic when one suffered from cold?

antibiotics are bactericidal agents (against bacteria). well cold is a viral disease. but this does not change the fact that you may have a bacterial infection in you respiratory system plus cold. so, what i think that doctor was doing is to eliminate all the possibilities including the worst case scenario that you may have a bacterial infection. that is what I think. good point you made. thanks

Your Doctor will prescribe Antibiotics to prevent any secondary infection taking hold. You see, the (viral) cold weakens the body's defences and makes you susceptible to for instance pneumonia. So the antibiotics are a preventative measure.
Antibiotics are NOT (quote) "bacteries who kill both cold bacteries and out body immunity" (lol) They actually work to halt the reproductive power of bacteria. Normally bacteria multiply very rapidly, but antibiotics stops this and so the number is kept manageable; therefore your body's normal defence mechanism is able to kill off the ones that are there.
If you are prescribed antibiotics, it's a good idea to buy some probiotic yoghurt and eat plenty of that, after the course of antibiotics is complete. (It's important to complete the course.) A major down-side of taking antibiotics is that they don't differentiate between "bad" bacteria and "good" bacteria. So the healthy bacteria in your gut that assists with digestion and assimilation of the food you eat can be lacking - the probiotics will help restore them to a correct balance.
Hope that helps!

common cold is a viral disease and it can't be cured by any medicine in the world.it gets cured on it own.it's a virus disease and it can only reproduce itself inside the host's living cell.antibiotic kill bacteria but viruses are so simple they use their host cells to perform activities for them.what happens is that at times teh patient develop a bacterial disease due to initial viral disease, antibiotic helps in combating them to prevent any such further complications.but antibiotics are completely ineffective and worthless against common cold or other such viral diseases.
