The sun is shining, the birds are singing, so why do I feel so rotten

It's a beautiful day outside this morning, the sun is shining, a lovely blue sky, the birds are singing in the trees and mad moggie Moomin is happily dozing in the sunshine on the patio. I have done most of my chores and had my coffee and croissant, and yet I feel absolutely lousy. Why? I have managed to catch yet another flaming cold:-(
I seem to have suffered nothing but constant colds for months now, I get rid of one and another one comes along. Headaches, sore throats, runny noses, streaming eyes, hacking coughs, I've had the lot and I'm sick of it. I've tried just about every remedy going, all the pills and potions, the jugs of hot lemon and the menthol inhalers, nothing seems to work and I am feeling so run down now I just want to crawl into bed and not come out again.
When you are sick with a cold, how long does it last? How do you feel? What can you do to get rid of a cold?

LOL I don't mind the occasional one now and again but this feels like it has been here forever.

Oh yeah, it's cold time.
THe girl that is living here with us has one too. So does my son. And my daughter seems to be starting.
Soon it will go around and we will all get it.
SInce I am trying to catch up with all discussions and I haven't been here properly for a bit, I just looked and noticed you posted this 5 days ago. I guess you are feeling better by now:)
I don't think there is any special way to get rid of a cold. Usually I drink plenty of lemon tea with honey, make sure I sleep a bit more, drink a bit more water, and ... yes... lots of chicken soup LOL

I still have this stupid cold :-( Currently I am trying the hot lemon and honey with a tot of brandy in it. It does seem to be doing the rounds, several of my friends have come down with colds in the past few days.

You poor lil darlin', that must be awful. I hope you're over it by now. I find it good to have a hot bath with some eucalyptus oil in it, then dress in warm nighty or pjs and wrap yourself in your doonah or wool blanket so you can sweat the germs out. Also, for the throat, temperature and other ills, drink a hot/warm concoction of lemon juice, honey (lots), garlic (at least one big clove, crushed), and a 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Have the temperature as hot as you can and drink it down quickly but not too fast so your throat can get the benefit. You will go to slleep in your cocoon thenm and when you wake a couple or so hours later you will feel heaps better. Chicken soup truly is good for you too.

I hate it when I get a cold as well. I would spend days in bed and recovering from my sickness. The worst part is that I tend not to eat and that's worst because I'm already as skinny as it is, . In order for me to get rid of the cold, I usually just gulp down as much water as I can, take lots of medicines (as prescribed) without fail and blanket myself to sleep. A light-speed fan on would be great as well and I can just concentrate on my recovery. Thanks for this discussion and take care.
