It is very important if you want them to grow up knowing how to cook fresh healthy foods, if you dont care and are happy for them to think its better to stick processed rubish down their throats then I suppose its not so important.
I let both my little girls help they are 2 and 4 years, my eldest helps cut up mushrooms and things for dinner and they both love helping make buns and biscuits
Their favourite thing to help me make is fresh pizza they love cutting peppers and mushrooms things like that and putting them on pizza, I find they eat better too when they help as they are interested to see what it tastes like once they have cooked it

I believe that all children should be taught how too cook. Cooking is a survival skill and all kids should be taught how to cook from scratch. If they are not taught from an early age then they ether aren't interest or think that every thing should come from a box. cooking with little one can be such fun. teaching kids to cook will always be important.

My kids are still pretty little (2 and 11 months), but they like to "help" cook. We mix cookies and stuff by hand and my 2 year old likes to dump the ingredients (pre-measured) into the bowl. He also enjoys cutting out the cookies and stirring.
I think it´s a good idea to let your children help you cook so they will learn. Then they will have more than enough skill to survive should it ever be necessary.

I think it is very important for kids to learn how to cook that when they move out of the house they can cook their own food and not live on fast food. My 4 year old loves to help in the kitchen she helps me put the ingredients in she loves it.

My daughter loves to help me cook dinner and helps with something everynight. She is 3 years old now but from the time she started walking around she wanted to help me. She will sit on the counter and add/mix ingredients, place uncooked rolls on a cookie sheet, stuff like that. On Sunday we baked homemade bread and she helped with everything. She really enjoyed kneading the bread.
I think cooking is such an important skill to have. And it teaches them math skills with things like measuring and time.
What is most important to me is that she truley enjoys it! She even puts on a little apron when she helps, too cute!
