Living in Boston of course the Red Sox are my favorite baseball team and I would have to say Manny is my favorite player.

David Ortiz is my favorite player, i think the red sox will contend for the title this year and a potential big boost will be after the all star break where curt schilling will be back and if he can just show a flash of his past success or even similar to last season that will help. the yanks will not make postseason cause it seems this team is reverting back to the yanks of the 80's with hank in charge, ironically the success they had from 1994-present is due to the period where george was suspended and the yanks were allowed to build from within.

So A am 8 years late to this post but my favorite Red Sox player would have to be David Ortiz. I think the guy has a job for life with the Red Sox organization. After Ortiz it would be Daisuke Matsuzaka when he was with the Red Sox.

In my house we are big Red Sox Fans. We constantly watch their games. I myself like Jason Varitek and Jacoby Ellsbury. My husband likes JD Drew. My 10 year old son likes Dustin Pedroia. My 13 year old son likes Manny Ramirez.

We've all been disappointed by his performance this season but my favorite player has been Jason Varitek for quite a few years. He stikes out quite a bit and has never been able to handle Wakefield but he is a great leader for the team and deserves the captain "C".

I became Red Sox fan partly because Schilling came to play for Boston. But I also love Big Papi. But let's face it.All of the Red Sox players are nice guys and easy to love.

I have to agree that it is a hard thing to pick just one player. In fact, I would have to break it down to current and historical players. For me, my favorite historical Red Sox player would have to be Carl Yastrzemski. Growing up, I watched Yaz, Rice, Fisk, Lynn, Evans, Eckersly, Boyd...the list goes on. These guys were great! Yaz was, is, and always will be my favorite player.
For current players, Papi and Manny certainly have their appeal. I was very impressed with Dustin Pedroia last year, though, and I am looking forward to seeing if Ellsbury can live up to his brief appearance last year. Overall, though, I have to go with Papelbon as my favorite current player.
