Being straight forward is a good thing, like with everything you communicate it's important how the tone of voice is and how you tell someone what you think.
If you give the other the option to respond and let their feelings be known, try to avoid hurting them unneccesairily with harsh words or a harsh tone of voice and give your message in the 'I' form it will most likely be no problem.
Bad : you are a total *beep*
Good: I'm not tolerating this behaviour / I'm having a hard time with you doing that / It makes me feel uncomfortable when you ...
This is how we learn to give feedback in communication training at school, of course these are made up examples that might sound a bit weird because they have no context what so ever.

I prefer people who are straightforward than backbiters. They are not stupid but they just express what is in their inner thoughts. Some friends are offended because they are not used to it. But if you come to know that person, you will appreciate more straight-forward friends!

I am straight forward. I do not believe in sugarcoating the truth to anyone. Now I wont go out of my way to be rude or inappropriate when it comes to telling the truth but I let my feelings be known.
