Ebay

I'm always looking for a few ways to make a lil extra spending cash. As the mom of four, I can't afford to leave the home and go outside to work, not with the cost of child care factored in.
It's been suggested I try selling on ebay, but I don't know how to go about it, or if it's really worth my time & energy...
Any thoughts?

We would purchase name brand clothing from the second hand stores and then resell them on eBay for two and three times what we paid for them with the occasional freak item selling for lots of money. It was a ton of work having to list them, package them, and ship them (though our mail man would pick them up for us we had to catch him). Plus there was some risk. We would buy things we thought would sell well and then they wouldn't. After awhile, too many people were doing the same thing and we began to sell less and less items. It was crazy.
So, as for selling on eBay, it is a lot of work, time, and energy for a payout that may or may not come. It could cost you in the end. I also joined a drop shipping that gave you two weeks to try it out. I spent about 15 hours on there searching for a product I could resell for a profit and found that it was not going to happen.
While you can resell things you already own with very little risk, it is chancy to sell other things. You really need to be knowledgeable in an area such as pool tables (I read an eBay book where the guy made a ton of money selling pool tables on eBay), antiques or collectibles. If you aren't in a huge hurry, I would suggest you check out writing for revenue sharing programs, you can check out my profile and find a ton of information.

I am just starting as a seller on ebay, and asked a similar question about it here at MyLot. I recommend starting out selling things out of your home. Most of my auctions are for clothing, some new with tags, but the majority are used. With 4 children, I am sure they are outgrowing some things, and kids' clothes sell very well on ebay. You could also sell old books, appliances, etc. My mom also gave me a lot of things to sell, and after I've sold the majority of the stuff I currently have, I am going to start hitting up flea market, garage sales, and clearance depts of stores.

It really helps to know what has been selling on Ebay and what it's been selling for, before you go to flea markets and garage sales. (those doing flea markets are usually a bit sharper when it comes to pricing their items...if they thought they had anything good, most would already be trying to sell it on Ebay...at least in my experience)
You can often find steals at garage sales and clearance at WalMarts and stores like that, especially right the first part of the yr (when companies often have inventory and need to clear old merch out of the store before the inventory!!)
There is also a program you can offer your buyers when they purchase your item and it can make you decent money from everytime they win auctions or buy online. I'll send a friend request, if you accept it, I'll message you with more details!
Have a great weekend!

I have been both a buyer and a seller on eBay for some years now and have managed to sell a lot of things I no longer needed or wanted.
As a mum you will have clothes and toys you could sell on eBay without too much trouble. Make sure you take good clear photographs, write clear and concise descriptions for your items, take measurements of clothes, try to keep your postage costs reasonable and make sure the clothes and toys are clean and in good condition. When you post your title to the auction don't state "as new" as it is not allowed on eBay but apart from these tips, give it a try and see how it goes.
You will never make a fortune on eBay, you much take into account the selling fees, but you are lucky in that people are always looking for childrens clothes.

I have never sold anything on eBay although I have bought my fair share of stuff. I do know of a program that offers cashback to people who buy things on eBay.... if you sell something, you may want to offer this to potential purchasers so they can save on their expenses. The best part is it doesn't come out of your pocket, it comes out of ebays.
Good luck!

I recommend that you stay away from ebay. With all of the policy changes... a new seller like yourself would have the same chance as a snowball in hell making anything that resembles a profit. I suggest going to a FREE site like loudfroug.com They charge you NOTHING to list, nothing to list 4 pictures, nothing to run an auction for 30 days and a lot of other freebies that greedbay currently charges for. and they only take 1% of your final value. These sites don't have as much traffic as ebay does YET .. but if nothing sells.. you lose NO money. If you don't sell on ebay.. you are out a listing fee, and any extra features you might choose to improve your sales. IF you do sell.. Greedbay takes 8.75% (i think) of your final value fee... plus the listing fee.. plus any additional features you may use. I HIGHLY recommend loudfrog, the people there are very nice and more than willing to help you iff you need it
I sold on Ebay for 2 yers.. did pretty well... until they implemented all the changes...
It's really not worth your time, effort and money trying to do this on ebay in hopes of making a profit.. It won't happen.
Good Luck
