The Toughest Immigrant Law in the Land

United States

This is an examples of what the rest of our nation should be doing to fight the continuing influx of illegal immigarnts. What is your opinion? THEY CAN'T FIND WORK...THANKS TO A NEW ARIZONA IMMIGRATION LAW...ONE OF THE TOUGHEST IN THE NATION. "the number one lure for illegal aliens in this country is jobs" SO ARIZONA LAWMAKER RUSSEL PEARCE WROTE A LAW SAYING IF A BUSINESS KNOWINGLY HIRES AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT...THEY WON'T SIMPLY BE FINED...THEY'LL BE SHUT DOWN. "If you shut down the rides and turn off the lights the crowds will go home." AND THEY ARE: ENTIRE APARTMENT BUILDINGS ARE EMPTY, STUDENTS ARE DISAPPEARING FROM SCHOOLS, STORES THAT CATERED TO HISPANIC FAMILIES...CLOSED. Reporter Ben Tracy "you can also see it here at this work center in phoenix where they used to have more than 100 people a day looking for work. now its less than half that. but its not just the law, its also these protestors out here who are scaring away business." "they call us racists for wanting our laws enforced. we're not against immigrants...legal immigrants" Full Story: http://wdef.com/news/immigration_nation_the_toughest_immigrant_law_in_the_land/04/2008

I've always been more annoyed with the people who hire illegals than with the illegals. These people are greedy. They claim that Americans don't want the jobs but the truth is they pay substandard wages and don't give benefits. Employers with decent paying jobs with benefits struggle while these people hire ilegals whom they don't treat all that well anyway. There should definitely be more clamp downs on the employers.

Whoo Hoo! I think it's about time and I hope other states follow suit, especially here in Florida. They are right, if the jobs aren't there they won't come. I am all in favor of legal immigration but those who come here illegal need to go back to where they came from. We need to make it harder for them here instead of catering to them. This law shouldn't scare off legitimate immigrants nor should it be causing the companies that much money to confirm their workers are legal. I think the companies are over exaggerating things because they don't want to have to hire legal workers. Let's face it when illegals they could pay them less, have less than safe working conditions and all around save money with no one complaining to OSHA or the Labor Board. Now though if all they can hire is legal workers they have to toe the line and that is what they are against.

As a former LEGAL immigrant I welcome such laws and then immigrants, especially legals, would not be regarded with suspicion. I am so happy and proud to be a naturalized citizen so I do not have to keep explaining myself.

That is really good to hear. Legal immigrants shouldn't have to worry nor should they feel the need to explain to others. It's just a shame that all the illegal ones make it that much harder for the legal ones.

Good I think all states should do this. I do beleive it would help our jobs to have all of them gone from here as hardly any citizen can pick up a decent job as they take all of them and alot of poeple will work at say Mc Donalds if the jobes were theret o take! with out illeagles taking them. Real immigrants are ok they are tring to be here lawfully!

Well, I would have to agree that taking away the incentive for people to be illegal immigrants, is a very good move. As that is half the problem. Businesses or deliberately use illegal immigrants so they can pay a very low wage & offer no benefits, are as much the problem as illegal immigrants themselves. Stop these people who are not employing genuine Americans & the illegals will have no reason to come.

You hit the nail on the head. That would certainly deter them from coming here, or any other country, illegally.

Hi Doll I have no problem with this law and it should be enforced everywhere... I don't think many people realize how many illegals are taken advantage of and some of the things that go through to be here... After that law we need to start getting the human trafficers... They are the slime on the soles of mankind! xoxoxoxoxoxoo

It sounds like they might have the right idea. I am not sure what the answer is, but it sounds like it is working for them.

I think it is great what Arizona has done...More States need to do the same..I see here in Las Vegas since the home forclosers many of them have left here also..No work they do leave. We have many Apts. now empty... I think more States will follow as some are seeing that it has cost way to much to keep giving hand outs to these people..Free medical, welfare, and even the schools are hurting as they can't handle the over crowed rooms... Sure they pay taxes but their wages are so low that it doesn't make-up for all the other expenses it cost a state.... America needs to do something...I have never seen any other illegals come here and protest and have marches they have and demand Rights...Or even amesty...This is all wrong....We need to put a stop to it and I think it is starting on its own, as the construction work is way down...No work they will go home...Then maybe come back the right way...

We gotta start doing something. I mean do it legally people and it wont be a problem. They can call us all racists I dont care it wont phase me. My hubby works in fast food and has to fire people all the time when the note comes in saying that there social security number is invalid. And most will just come back and reapply with a different name.

It's about time someone did something drastic to handle the illegal immigrant situation. You know the only way to get results is to hit people where it hurts and that is the pocketbook.

They need to have similar laws in all states. The newest is tick'n off people but over 60% of people polled approve of it! We need one of those laws in my state badly!

Even although this discussion is 3 years old and Arizona has now passed a recent law to fight illegal immigrants in their State. I just wish the law could be passed in more states....especially mine Georgia which is the 7TH highest state with over 280,000 illegal immigrants.
