Whenever i pick my cat up for a hug (which is quite often as she's really soft, fluffy and huggable, plus she demands a lot of attention!) i can't help noticing that her soft fluffy fur smells lovely, it's got a kind of sweet natural cleam smell about it, despite the fact she eats stinky cat food them washes herself (you'd think her fur would smell of the cat food!). Of course her breath stinks of the cat food, but her fur always smells lovely. What does your cat smell of? Is he/she swett or stinky smelling?

I have seven cats. Whenever I pick one up and get close enough to smell, it's usually a nice clean smell like you mentioned. However, if the cat has just been in the litter box, ugh, I smell the litter dust smell on them. I don't smell the other smells you would expect from a litter box, just the litter smell.
And cat breath after eating canned cat food, icky. I don't know if icky is a word, but it describes what I smell.

Cats do seem to have a nice smell about them. Indoor and outdoor. Although outdoor cats do tend to absorb a nice outdoorsy odor which is unique from indoor cats.
Indoor cats kind of have a "homey" or "cozy" smell to them - I think anyway.
Now the dog on the other hand - as much as I love her she distinctly smells like DOG! And then of course during rainy or humid days she smells like WET DOG which is even worse!
BTW the cat in your avatar looks alot like our cats.

Moomin usually smells quite pleasant, the only time I've ever noticed him getting a bit smelly was when he took a drive into our little pond in the garden. He smelt of wet fur and mud until I got him cleaned up and dried off.

my cat looks clean, soft and pretty. but his fur smells like his saliva...he bathes himself too much.
