The best of the worst or the worst of the best

I went back to school at the age of 37 and I went to university and I worked my butt off. I made many sacrifices to do it as well. I was a single mother and had to raise my then 16 year old son.
I was always smart which was an advantage to me. In my undergrad courses I was also at the top of the class, it felt good to be in the top ranks in any class.
Then it was time for grad school, by did I get a shock, Everyone was super smart too, we all where or we would not have gotten into that program,
I went from the top of my class in grad school to closer to the bottom of my class in grad school, but even the bottom of the class was great remember because everyone was smart there were no b students there everyone was A students.
I felt that my ranking in that class made me the worst of the best,
so my question to you is,
would you rather be in a super smart class and be the worst of the best, and if you are not in school the worst of the best in your job, or field,
or be in a less demanding class and be the best of the worst?
please give a reason with your answer.

Congrats! on having the guts to go back to school to further your education. It must have been inspiring to your son to see you go back to school and do great at it. I haven't even gotten my G.E.D. yet but I have been wanting to real bad but having no transportation puts a crink in things. To answer your question. I would rather be in the super smart class and know I am the worse of the best because I know I was doing my best and in doing my best I deserved to be there because I busted my butt to be there. In a job? I would feel the same way even though the others might not agree with me being there doing my job. I owuld be doing my job to the best of my knowledge and that is good enough for me.

I am a little afraid to try to get it online because I feel that I would rnjoy the experience and be able to focus better if I had to do it in a classroom with the help of a teacher to ask questions to when I need it or can't understand something especially with algebra and other maths since it isn't or wasn't my stong suit in school. But I should check that out. Do you know if it cost anything to do it online? I know only those who took the schooling to get their G.E.D in school.

I'm not really sure anymore. I don't know if it would help me to be the best at something or not. I think we should just be ourselves and be proud of who we are and what we have accomplished no matter what rank we get. You should be very proud of yourself for your achievements. I think it is great that you at least made it to the bottom of the top. Alot of people can't say that for themselves.

I have been in the best class all along. However, I never made it to the best of the best. So many a times, I wish I could be the best of the worst. At least I know I would be first in class, something my parents will be very proud of. It does not matter if I am not first in school, but being first in class is something great then. It was sort of being a "hero" of the year.

In that situation it would be important to keep in mind that you're among the best...and even if you're in last place among them, you're still among the BEST.
I think if a person is somewhat competitive, he/she wants to be #1 in any category, even when it's the cream of the crop already.
Personally, I'd be delighted and honored to be in last place among the best. It's a dirty job -- somebody's gotta do it.

No matter where your position is, I think, it's best whether you can use your skills for your own betterment or not. That's what counts, in my opinion. Anyway, what an achievement you have had already! I admire your sacrifices, strength, etc to go back to college. That itself is a great achievement!

I never paid much attention to
my grades as long as I was learning
what I needed to know...
I do have an extended education
and never got less then a B
in any upper level classes..
I think different things are
important to different people.
I just never cared.
Maybe I would have if I was failing..lol
