I've heard a spoon of peanutbutter is the best way.
Well here's another way.
"A woman went to her Health Maintenance Organization. After
about 15 minutes with one of the new doctors, she went
screaming down the hall. Another doctor stopped and asked
her what the problem was and she explained.
The second doctor went back to the first and said, "What's
the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old. She has
four grown children and seven grandchildren and you told
her she was pregnant?"
The new doctor simply smiled and said,
"Cured her hiccups though, didn't it?" "

LOL! What a great question!
I have to admit that I'm sort of an oddball when it comes to hiccups and how to get rid of them. I've never been successful getting rid of them with conventional means like drinking water or getting scared. (BTW, thanks for the great chuckle in your post!) My boyfriend even tried the old tickle-torture treatment to get rid of hiccups and that never worked either.
I don't know about other people, but here are pretty much the only ways I've ever been successful getting rid of hiccups. The best thing I've found and is most reliable is eating something--anything at all. I don't know why it works, but if I can find something to chew and eat during a bout, that generally works.
The other thing that has worked for me in the past actually started out as a joke. When I was really young, I had a horrible case of the hiccups that wouldn't go away for anything. My mother finally got so frustrated hearing them she told me 'Oh, go stand on your head in the corner!'. Would you believe it actually worked? Beats me why, but it did. The only thing I can think is that flipping over somehow caused extra pressure on my diaphragm or altered my normal breathing enough to cause them to go away. Needless to say, my mother was shocked when I came back a couple minutes later sans hiccups. :-)

all I ever heard of was to block your nose and drink water. This is what my grandmother used to tell us to do when were were kids.
I did hear also like this email joke to scare somebody, clap your hands loud and make them jump etc.

What the doctor did is the way which i know , scare a person and that will deffinetly stop hiccups. One other way which may or maynot be helpfull is close ur nose with ur fingers and drink a glass of cold water. I guess this works most of the times but i am not sure.

I had never heard of the peanut butter thing. That is news for me. I have always heard of a tespoon of sugar. I have also heard to hold your breath for a few seconds to get rid of them also. That is funny about the 63 year old lady. I guess they could be scared out of us LOL.

That's funny. I bet it did cure her hiccups!
My father's remedy- drink a mouthful of straight cordial. He made my friend do it one time when she was at my place and now she thinks my dad's a hero because it really works!

Hi raydene! haha..That is hilarious! My hiccups will surely disappear if I am in her shoes at that time. LOL! I guess, that is the best cure I ever heard of. However, I am wondering if it will work with males. LOL! Take care always and have a nice day! :)

I knew about the one with the spoon of peanut butter, but there is also the one about a spoonful of sugar. I like these both because I find them to be a whole lot easier to do. Then of course there is always the holding your breathe, but your suppose to hold it until you actually hiccup again. I also like the one where you drink gulps of water while holding your nose. You can also try to ask someone a question that would actually make them think like, "When was the last time you saw a deer?"
Of course if you live somewhere where they have deers a lot don't ask that question. And of course there is the one where you scare the person out of hiccups like in the story you have in the start of this discussion.

Hah! Raydene, Thanks for sharing this funny joke.
However it is a method to cure for hiccups. When I was in the middle school, I can't stop hiccuping one day. It made me uncomfortable. One of my classmate came to me and said:" Hi Lucy, when did you give me my money back?" I'm surprised and thought when I borrowed her money and forgot to return, it was a bad behaviour. I thought for a while, then I was sure I didn't borrow her money at all. I told her:" I didn't borrow you money." My classmates smiled and asked me:" do you still hiccup?"
Another method is that look at the sky for a while, it will cure hiccupes.
