moving to new york

I have been thinking about moving to New York, but I was told that the crime is very high. If this is so then I will not move.
Is there anyone that lives in New York that can tell me if this is a good place to raise a family? Is the cost of living high there?

I like liberty statue, time squares, hollywood and its called a busy place.

will, i am not a NEWYORKER, i do wish that one day i could be.
The crimial rate maybe high at someplace but totally speaking, America is a legal counry !
