We give things the couple would need in their homes. Cash would be like, under extreme unable-to-shop-for-better-things gifts, and that usually is given by godparents. We think that by giving them things in the house, we are able to contribute to the easing of their otherwise stressful "starting new" life as couples. That's how in our country.

some may prefer to receive money, that can help them start with their family together... but of course there are some who have listed their preferred wedding gifts... in bridal registry, etc... so you may also look into that so that you can choose a gift that the couple would like to receive.
