I think love is stronger than hate. Why? well, because it takes years or sometimes forever to forget someone you love. Most of the time, people forgive someone they love when they comes back to them because their love prevails over the pain/hate when they left them. And I do believe, that some of the reason why those people dont forgive other people who causes pain towards them, is because their pride tells them not to. They already forgot everything or the hate they felt, but for the sake of pride, they tend to be as angry as what they are before. dont you thinks so?

I know that my pride has nothing to do with why I don't forgive a person that did something wrong to me. It is the action that I can't forgive. But I guess for some it is a pride thing. Especially when you have forgotten why you disliked the person.

Pride is one reason why people can't forget but sometimes, it's not really the cause. For example, the rape victims, they can't easily forget the bad thing that happened to them for it changed their whole life, it's a reality that they must face for the rest of their lives. Another is those battered wife and children, those people who loss their relatives due to some creatures who just kill coz their inner voice tells them to do so.. things like that. If they can't have justice through law, I guess the only thing that matters to them is their feelings for that person, that hatred, that anger is really hard to let go.

I think it depends on the situation. If love prevails then peace will follow. If hate prevails, war will eventually come out. In a situation of two countries having a war, we can say that love is not an option for them because neither of them wants to give way to the other so how can this be possible? On the other way around, if love is stronger for an instance in a lovers scenario, they would fight for their love until the end of time.
Hate lasts longer for people who keep grudges. These people can't have contentment in life. They can't find the happiness they are seeking if hate is in their hearts.
Love unites people. It is really strong if it is within us. Love can do both good things and bad things.
Love can result to hate but hate can also result to love. There are many instances, many situations and I guess we cannot really measure it. But I want to believe that LOVE IS STRONGER THAN HATE. :D

I guess I am an exception. I keep grudges and I wouldn't have it any other way And I am happy. In fact if I had to change for others then I wouldn't be happy. For me hate can Never turn to love. If I hate you, I will never like or love you.But If I love you, you would have to do something Really evil for me to hate you. I agree with you, Love can be stronger than hate.

yes I agree with you. It differs in every person, on how they perceive it. On some cases, people fall ion love with people they always argue with. Maybe it is because they liked the way he/she argue and he/she misses him/her every time the other is not around. It always depends, like I said. :)

Hi sarahruthbeth22,I think you start a interesting discussion. It is difficulty for me to answer.I try my best to think of it,I have still they are equal.I give you an example.I will do my best to protect my lover or family if someone dare infringe them.Even though,I may be killed by others. But I will kill others if I really hate them,so it is equal I think.

hi sarahruthbeth, i don't actually got your question, your title says which one is stronger? and your questions says which one lasts longer? OK in my opinion it depends on the person, some persons take love seriously than hate and some take hate seriously than love!

I was asking about the endurance of each through the course of time. That's why I think it is a tie.

I believe hate is stronger - because so often it is tied to evil, or anger.
With hate there are no boundaries and common sense does not prevail

I think hatred is a stronger emotion. You can love many people in many different ways and you can fall in and out of love with a person. When a person feels hatred towards another person, or people, it seems to last a lifetime and does not fade. Hate causes bitterness anger and resentment and festers linke a wound that will not heal.
Hate can be taught. It is spread or encouraged through propaganda and indoctrination. We are all born to love and love comes naturally to most people. I don't find it natural to hate anyone, or maybe I was brought up to love other people and not to hate them.

I think respect can be taught but not love. Some hatred comes from a life experience and not a learned behavior. I have it equal because for every person who hates there is another whose love is just as strong.

I think it depends on the person. For me, Love is stronger than Hate b/c I couldn't hang on to Hate as much as I can Love. Other ppl can Hate someone with every ounce of being they have. The problem with that is if you spend too much time hating someone...you don't leave room for the love in your life.

I must be more capable of holding on to things because I can hold on to both hate and love forever. If I love you, I will always. but if I hate you, I will hate you always. That's why I thought it was a tie.

Tough question. Hatred is a strong emotion, but so is love. Both carry equal power, one is more of a destructive power while the other is more constructive. However, love can also lead to things that are unhealthy for a person. There are not too many things or people that I hate, besides the behavior of some.
Like I said, tough question!
PEACE

When I was about to post it, I thought hate was stronger but then I changed my mind and thought love. Now I think it is a tie. for each story of hatred there is a story of love.

I can and do hate someone I didn't love.If I hate you it isn't because the love faded, it is because of something completely different from love loss.

EXACTLY. for each story of hatred there is a story of love. You can't really hate a person you did not love at the first place right? yes, that answer made me really happy. new learning earned today hehe :)

I can say ....Love is hard to get, ones u get it ..its very Sweet...
Hate is available to u 24 * 7, its very Bitter.. makes u unhappy ..! But in general Failure to something/anything .. slowly leads to Hate...if u ignore it u will come up..otherwise ..u will still struggle.. ..!

Hello sarahruthbeth22!:-)
I haven't seen discussions started by you in a while. Have you been busy? I hope you and yours are doing fine!:-)
To me, love and hate are not only equal but inseparable. One may never realize hate while experiencing love and vice versa , though, depending which one is taking lead and is in foresight.
But, I do think that hate is dependent on love, not the other way around, i.e. scientifically speaking, Love is independent while Hate is dependent variable. It is like Centripetal and Centrifugal forces, equal and inseparable, but with Centrifugal force dependent on Centripetal force for its very existence!
Like, if I love someone very, very much, I would hate things that may hurt, damage, deteriorate my beloved. Hate depends on Love to exist. If I hate something, it is because I love something else, it can be our own self too. Sometimes this beloved appears to be hidden and other times it's known. We may seem to hate someone or something without reason, but there is always a reason, though we may not know it!
Ok, enough rambling and I am starting to look boring, so must leave now, LOL!

First, you Never ramble.Second, I only start posts that I think are good enough to write and that's why it takes so long.I don't understand, do you mean to hate something you must love something else? But you can love without hating?

I also tend to think that love is stronger than hate. Love is a positive way. When we grow old, sometimes we will forgive others' mistakes. We won't care about it any more. So our hate has gone. If we keep the hate with us forever, we won't find happy. Therefore, I believe love is stronger.

I can see if there is only hate in your life you will never be happy. But if you have both love and hate you can be happy.

i think it should be love which lasts longer than hate.sometimes we hate someone just because we still love him and can't forget that person totally.while once hate disappears, love is exited for ever.

Wow. I must be weird. If I hate someone it has Nothing to do about me once loving them.I can see love turning into hate but not hate turn into love.

Good question.....I hope it would be love! But really both dim with time....love that's not returned...and hate after a while stops sizzling! So I would say love...for long after you have been madly in love with someone...you have times where you still think of them!

Heya Sarah.. that's one good question you made me think alot about this.. haha..some how i'm thinking that both are equal right now. But then, when i think again and again, i can't seem to find the answer..but i'd say Love lasts longer compared to hate. somehow someday, we tend to never forget our loved ones but we'll somehow won't really remember who we hate unless, the hatred is so strong towards that particular person, then i guess, in that case, his/her hatred will last longer than love..
