I don't think it really matters were you meet them, it is more about how you go about forming a relationship. I think friendship is the best base for a relationship, because you know the person well. I don't think it is old-fashioned to meet your life partner on a blind date, because it is not as though you are meeting them thinking this is your life partner, you go thinking they might be a nice person. I do think that arranged marriages are old-fashioned though.
