What do you think will happen to mankind 10,000 years from now?

I think there is a possibility we will return to old times and live like the caveman because of war... But there is also a possibility we will find a way to travel fast in space and inhabit a new planet... There is a third possibility that we won't get too far with science and stay about the same...

Any person living today has experienced some of the best time in human history, however, the sad part of this quality of life is it is at the expense of our lineage. If we want to dream about what maybe in 10,000 years I suggest we start living on this planet like we want to stay 10,000 years. It is great to dream and wonder what might be, but eventually we have to face the reality we have created which will impede our development and possibly end our existence. Reality 1. We live in finite world with finite resources fueling our infinite economy which requires growth to succeed. Does anyone see a problem with that? Reality 2. We do not have a sustainable food supply and we have uncontrolled human population growth. Does any one see a problem with this situation? We have many pressing problems to overcome before we can dream about last 10,000 years. And I don't think space travel is within our grasp before the pressing problems we face are solved. Nice to dream but then reality slaps you upside the head.

Dear Mythion As human beings we have been endowed with the gift of foresight and to ignore that gift is much more inhuman then looking for sustainable system. Starvation is suffering beyond any solutions to our greed beyond believe. It matters not the system be it Capitalism, Communism or Anarchy they are all based on infinite growth. It would be much less painful for us to develop sustainable system then the alternative which is letting mother nature do it for us. All who ignore the reality of our world and do nothing (which is what you suggest as the lessor of two evils)do not understand the reality of our world. Furthermore, your blatant disregard for future generations who will suffer the consequences of our actions indicates a lack of maturity and demonstrates selfishness, greed, and a leap in logic. We do not own our planet we are only borrowing it from future generations. I suggest your attitude is a big part of the problem with our current voter apathy and lack of effort to understand our world and how it works. Your trying to taking the easy way out by suggesting we will get what we deserve, when in fact the unborn do not deserve the fate you have condemned them to. Your response to my post is a cop outs so you can go back to your life without inconvenience or taking action of any kind. Sorry but the truth hurts sometimes and sometimes it takes the truth to wake people up to the reality they have created for themselves. Does anybody have a grip on reality?

I agree with you, but I am afraid some solutions to those problems may be found inhumane by some people... I think one of the causes to those problems is capitalism and the industrial revulotion. I pesonally think humans deserve to what they bring upon themselves, when there will be no food - we deserve it, when people will die because of air pollution in the millions - we deserve it. I agree that those problems need to be solved first but finding a new planet to inhabit can be a very good solution... but how long will it take us to get there and will it be to late(probably will).

I said humans desevree what they've done - They have to fix the problem, I didn't say I have no concern, if i had no concern would've I start this topic? I wanted to hear what other people think about the future of mankind and one other thing, as I grow up I want to dedicate my life to finding some of those solutions in science.

Hello, Mythion! There are infinite possibilites to what can happen to mankind in 10.000 years. For example, will mankind still exist in 10.000 years? We can create a war in which one country will destroy the entire Planet, including itself! Or will the Planet Earth still have conditions for us to exist? Because we are destroying it, and perhaps someday we will not be able to live here anymore. We can end up going to another planet, in another part of the Universe, and stablish a new way of living in there. We can also evolve to another animal, still called human, but quite different from what we are right now. Or, perhaps, a new specie of animal starts evolving in the Planet, with a higher intelligence than we humans. Then they'd dominate and we would be used in their "Circus", as their pets or just become their slaves, as we do with horses, elephants and other animals. When you are thinking about this, you must open your mind and imagine everything. Everything is possible in 10.000 years. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

All the possibilities you mentioned I already said, but I was asking what do you think will happen in 10,000 years, not the possibilities... and I don't think a more intellegent race will rise, 10,000 years is not enough for that kind of evolution - try 8-6 million years...

500 years ago, everything was so different. Now, we can even talk to others without being near them, through cell phones. And now we have a specially human world, the Internet. Why do you think that in 10.000 a new specie would not be able to be more intelligent?

A new species is not us, if they'll evolve to intellegence it will be at the same rate we did, 10,000 years is enough only to make a one new hair on our hair - in evolutionary terms - tiny fraction of time. Plus currently there is no need for any species to evolve like we did, most likely in the next 10,000 - no new intellegent species.

I would hope that we would have ventured out further into space. The types of speeds needed tho are not within our grasp I don't think if at all possible at that. It's probably more about bending space rather than trying for more speed. I hope that all is well in 10000 years I hope mankind is alive and doing well without wars , I too have shared that thought of maybe returning to caveman like times, as I'm sure that has already happened at least once.

I agree it's about bending space but I think were far from it and were even far from reaching a speed that'll allow us to find an inhabitable new planet, some planets that were found to MAYBE be inhabitable are 40 LIGHT years away... we are far from but I think 10,000 is enough to reach a reasonable speed or even a slight chance of "bending some space", this will all be great if we could go another 10,000 years without destroying ourselves.

I think, on 10000 year again, people have change their civilation become some extraordinary people, because nature have change become very wild and unstabble because some disaster that happen in between 3000-6000 year again, that disaster happen because human never really care with nature

As for evolution, I have no predictions. I do believe that if we don't colonize other planets, our race will be wiped out. If we do travel further and colonize, we will evolve. It may not be naturally, however, if there are other life forms we come in contact with, we may indeed evolve naturally. I believe we will discover more about science from space travel and an increase in the time of our species. Hopefully, war will become useless. Many of our earthly ways will become extinct. Certain things will just become useless and new methods of technology will triumph. This can be exemplified by the fact that during the civil war, ironclads made wooden ships completely useless. As scientific methods improve, new technology "kicks out" old technology.

The earth would be in the 5th dimension and humanity would enjoy a great golden age. People would travel to the stars and live among beings from different parts of our galaxy.

Hi mythion,I think you have much imagination.I have thinkesd of it.One,human will travel in space very easy. The science develop very well, people can do whatever they want. Two,mankind also return ancient times,we may meet our ancestor,it must be interesting.Third,Mankind will disappear in the world for some reason.
